I canned a honey pear sauce this year. So fabulous. I use it to add to breadcrumbs for stuffed pork chops, as a glaze for ham and pork loin. Last Year I canned honey pears (replaced the sugar in the canned pears recipe with honey. They were a huge hit!

Yes, we are building a chicken moat around the garden moving the compost bins to inside the chicken moat facing the garden. Our chickens will have the run of the garden fall through winter, the moat (think square run with a garden inside the center) will be divided so they will be in one half...

My garden is on a 5 year crop rotation. We have added only peat and compost we create ourselves and do not chemically treat for anything. My garden does as well as the amount of time I want to put into it every year. My soil is maintained by the plants themselves as one plant adds to the soil...

Well on the topic of chicken math. We wanted to start our chicken adventure with four. We bought six just in case there were casualties... there weren't they are all happy and healthy. Then a friend of a friend had a rooster in a subdivision and wanted to get rid of him so we added one more. Now...

My hardneck garlic I left in the ground overwinter and did not mulch. I attempted to harvest it the next fall when the greens turned brown but no cloves had formed (in ground about 18 months), My soft neck bulbs were mushy to the touch and never got bigger than a green onion, they never really...

I will be watching for answers I have struggled with both hard neck biennial and soft neck annual garlic. I'd love to know how to do it right. I have some heritage hard neck I'd like to plant this fall but I'm afraid I'll mess it up again after two years of mishaps, and waste it.

I make bamboo arbors for my beans. After three years of trial and error I have decided making a series of 'X's' out of the sticks instead of wiring them straight across in a line makes it sturdier across the top. Also an 'X' on each side will add strength to the sides.

Oh the freezing part I've done already works like a dream. I use the same recipe I use for grape and apple jelly. 3 1/2 cups Mulberry juice (literally ANY fruit juice) 5 cups sugar (3 3/4 cups of honey if you are substituting do not add both) 1 1 3/4 ounce powdered pectin (I use Ball...

I shake the trees weekly to bi-weekly when they are in season. Collect the berries, clean them in water pop them into a freezer bag and store them until I can get to them. I thaw them out, crush them through a sieve with cheesecloth and make a nice seedless jelly. :) I have been using sugar in...

They taste much like a blackberry mixed with a little concord grape and red wine. They are smaller than blackberries but grow on trees. We have an entire fence row of them on the back property. They are pretty seedy, so I make them into jelly rather than jam. A lot of people around here make...

Perhaps "Stumpy" the mower blade changer has learned from his mistakes. I think my first question on whether or not to take his advice would be: Was the finger healed or was it lost during filming?

I've been reading through this debate the past couple of days and it seems to be the core of it is fairly simple. People judge each other. I see nothing wrong with the original question asked as I think it came from a sincere desire to learn and understand something. Is it ok to have a chicken...

We added pine bark mulch to our blueberries and blackberry beds this year. Most mulches lower the acidity of the soil, pine bark raises it. Both berries are in their first year and so far it looks like I'll have a handful of blueberries and a truckload of blackberries. The blackberries are...

Yep we use a clean sheet. It's got some very nice purple blotches from the last two years. He loved shaking the tree. He stood under it with his mouth open like he was eating snow until I made him move so he didn't eat sticks. lol

Yes the four year old ate them almost as fast as I could pick them. He would pick one and eat it then grab a handful out of the bucket and eat those. He was purple even after a shower.

Picked my first batch of mulberries two days ago and our bees have been busy on our neighbors old cherry trees so I picked a bunch of tiny tart pie cherries. I ended up with a quart of each for the freezer. Had a blast teaching the four year old grandson how to harvest. A very nice two hours...

We are hoping once the chicken moat is up and we can let the chickens into the garden they will help with it. For now we only have 6 chickens and they are only a month old so we threw up the wagons on the fly. I don't know if I could handle the guinea noise.
