I put a 25 watt bulb in a cookie tin. Drilled a couple of holes in it for air circulation. Waterer hangs just above it and works perfectly to keep water from freezing. I used this all winter last year during the polar vortex! Never gets hot. Just lightly warm.
It's plugged in outside...
The 25 and now 40 watt bulb in cookie tin works for me. My plastic waterer hangs just above it so that it is barely touching.
Temps are going to plummet tonight here in Southern Ontario. So I changed bulb to 40 watt. My chickens are inside a sturdy brick carriage house and I have out down...
So far so good with my cookie tin. Temps are below freezing here. I have set ceramic tiles on bricks on top of which I set the cookie tin.it is only warm to the touch.
We had it on for a couple of hours in the house to test it. It got quite warm to the touch but not hot. I imagine it will be cooler when out in the cold. I have a plastic waterer so I don't want it too hot. I'm going to put bricks under it and around it as I don't want the straw bedding...
My hubby just finished the cookie tin heater. It's very festive. Lol.
Now let's hope it works. Testing it right now. Cost was only about $14.00. Using a 25 w bulb.
Will let u know how it goes.
