He gave the filly a once-over and shifted his weight uneasily. Time-honored instincts were telling him to court her.
Windstar had surprisingly disappeared from Diablo's herd. Close to foaling, she had wanted isolation, but had wandered farther than she'd intended. Now, the simple-minded dun was just lost.
Sundance stood off to herself, kicking almost constantly at her belly. Apache hadn't made her feel this...
Apache watched the dam and the newborn. Though far from satisfied that Flowers wouldn't strike the foal again, he left to check his borders.
The filly flinched at the air movement but stood still.

Coal, still embarrassed, returned Zelda's nuzzle. Winding another mare, he turned his head and sniffed.
(Well, of my studs here it's Coal, Apache or Zachorzy...take your pick or run in terror)
"Did you hear something, Zelda?" Coal's ears pricked forward. He'd heard, or thought he'd heard, a distant whinny.
Coal, conjuring up memories of Char rearing at him, squealed and leaped aside. He recovered quickly and whinnied his embarrassment.

"So am I!" Apache tossed his head. "I have my own responsibilities now. I can't not do them just to make sure you do yours!"
