    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Just a note on color. Hatchery birds are often lighter than the standard, but they can also be darker. Unfortunately, the Black Laced Red progeny of the Blue Laced Red birds has been unknowingly mixed in with many breeding programs, especially at hatcheries where they just don't care. This has...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Question: does anyone on this thread raise PURE Gold Laced Wyandottes? I'm talking about a bloodline that is not from hatchery stock, and also has not been crossed at some time with the Black Laced Red progeny of Blue Laced Red birds. While all GLW are beautiful regardless of where they come...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Understand, and totally agree that it's exciting if you can get eggs by 22 weeks. I posted my answer because this is a Gold Laced Wyandotte forum, and I hope some people are going for the true-to-breed standard birds, and you just can't expect them to produce like the hatchery birds. Hatcheries...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

I have to say something about the expectation of eggs at 22 weeks. While it is true that hatchery "heritage" breeds will often lay earlier than quality breeding stock, to expect a heritage breed to be laying at 22 weeks- let alone 19 weeks- is forgetting in a way what kind of birds these are...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

I can't really state one way or the other on this GLW. It's quite a bit darker than either the cockerels or pullets I have. The pattern still looks like a hen, though, so don't give up yet!

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Thanks for the reply- I hope a lot of people read it. You are the first person who could explain in detail WHY you are breeding the Black Laced Red back into the GL. And also, that you understand the dangers to the GLW if the project is not carefully monitored. You are dedicated to your project...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Because a color comes from another one originally doesn't mean it should be bred back into the parent color. Each chicken color is really a 'breed' to itself in a way, and is better kept that way for purity. Yes, they are all Wyandottes, but if I want to purchase Gold Laced, I want them to be...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Just so you know, she is not a gold laced. Blue Laced Red produce three colors- blue, splash, and black. She is a Black Laced Red offspring of the Blue Laced birds. This is important to breeders, because too many hatcheries and individuals have crossed Black Laced Red into the Gold Laced lines...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

I want to get chicks of this breed that are not hatchery stock- in other words I want quality- and that have never been mixed with the Black Laced Red offspring of the Blue version. Are there any breeders who have these available? I also want Silver Laced and Partridge Wyandottes. Thanks!
