Same here. Our 'nasty' chicken Elizabeak was the 'middle chicken' until the Maran died, now she is 2nd from the bottom and she's nastier than before. I wonder if the pecking order determines temperament or temperament determines flock status?

Just today I was thinking how our RIR "lap hen" isn't as safe from predators as the other hens.... too curious, too bold, too friendly...pretty much all the things that make her our favorite puts her at risk...
I have already posted that out friendliest and least friendly hens are BOTH RIR. But with everything I read about temperament before getting our first chicks, it's interesting that every breed is well represented on this thread!

Our friendliest hen is a Rhode Island Read named Pinkey Pie, she follows me all around the yard and if the back door is opened she will come into the house hope up on a lap and take a nap. Our most aggressive and unfriendly hen as our OTHER Rhode Island Red Elizabeak. Go figure.
