So I kept the vet appt. They did not find any yeast in her crop but did find a couple unusual bacteria or something I don't remember what they called it and gave me an antibiotic. Very good experience. She is awfully thin but hope I can get her better before we leave this Saturday.
Hi all, so here's where we're at. Chicken looks great! Her comb is bright red. She's eating, running, drinking, pecking, scratching. Haven't been able to see a dropping for a couple days. Her crop doesn't feel puffy at all. I haven't seen her spit up at all for two days. She is still a...
Hi, thanks for asking. We are dealing with sour crop now, I think. I tried to give her plain yogurt last night and this morning, but she really seemed to hate it. I kept her inside all night with no food or water. Her crop was still slightly puffy this morning, but not too big. I had to...
I would agree that makes sense, but we have well water. Go figure! Silly chickens LOL
She was even better this morning. Ran out with everyone else and attacked the mealworms and cantaloupe guts I had today. That crop still feels a little bloated and she slowed down again after a while but...
Good idea. I let them out for a while today and she walked around a lot and scratched and pecked. She stopped for a minute and twisted her neck around a couple times. I shake the mealworm bag to get them back in and she ran a few feet then walked in. She did eat a couple worms and drank some...
She's a little better today. I put her out with the others. I did give her a little Activia yogurt. There's still a lot of gurgling from her gut. Stuff is moving through and out. She drank and drank when she got out with the others. Guess she likes three day old water better than fresh...
I have a separate area in the front of my shed I may put her in during the day so she can see the others but I think it's too cold at night here in Indiana for her to stay by herself, especially being ill. She looks even better now. Still not eating a lot but some, and laying down instead of...
The vet's office said if she is eating, drinking and defecating, I can wait until my appointment this Saturday. They said if she stops doing any of those or gets worse in any way to bring her in as an emergency. I was gone all afternoon and when I got home, she had pooped, albeit thin and...
I'm thinking the chunk was between 1 & 1 1/2 inches sort of square. I chopped the stem into chunks. I know I know. Never again. I usually throw it in the microwave with water and soften it up for a few minutes. Sigh...
I just checked her again. She pooped a little and was pecking at her...
Thanks everyone for your concern. She is trying to eat. Definitely drinking. Just a little liquid dribbled out her beak when she bent over. Not smelly. I brought her in this morning so I can monitor her intake and output. However, her comb is getting dark and shriveled on the tips, which I...
Oh man...this is all my fault! I know I have to cook broccoli stems. I always have before. I just forgot. I will call the vet first thing in the morning. She may be spending the night in the basement "sick" room. Poor thing. Thank you
Oh no! I haven't had much luck with the vets in Indianapolis which is closest to me, but I will try. Do you think she'll be ok til tomorrow? Can they help with this?
Hi she seems to have it down into her crop but is still very lethargic and spitting up brown liquid. I massaged her crop several times today and gave a little olive oil but it seemed to come back up. She did get out and scratch around a little and drank a little water. Just now came in from...
I just checked her again. It is further down her little throat. She is already up on the roost for the night, but she seems better. Nothing came up when I picked her up and massaged her throat this time. If it's still there in the morning I might try a little oil. Thank you for your help...
