Definitely a roo in the middle of that picture. I hatched one out of Amyables eggs but it died so now I am back to 2 hens again. To me a roo with that barring is more desirable. If I ever get a roo, I really want to work towards a more uniform color in the males.
Amyable, Four of the eggs are still going.
discoveregg, you have plenty of roosters there. I can definitely tell mine are hens now from looking at your pictures.
Your pictures don't show. I wouldn't be culling until I was sure. How are you going to know which roosters are light and which are dark? Anyway, if it was me, since they are so rare, I would make two pens, a light and a dark. Are they just two weeks old?
Have you read this thread...
I would think the problem with trying to sex them when they are older is that you don't know how much barring your male might have. I have seen some pictures with males with very nice barring and some with very little so I am not sure you could go by that. Maybe post some pictures. I wish I...
My chicks are doing quite well and I am getting more eggs from Amyable. I am hoping to get at least a few more chicks. Can't wait to see how they look grown!
Thank you for the link. That was a good read anyway. I did not know they were such good layers. I still would like to know if anyone knows whether I have hens or roosters. I would imagine I have the dark variety from the looks of the chicks.
I just hatched 2 chicks and on feathersite it says that you can sex the day old chicks by color. They even give an example but I don't see the difference. Are the females lighter?
