Finally got the first eggs, and it wasn't from Scramble at all! She's still just plugging along, not laying eggs. My wee Anna chicken (a crested cream legbar) has produced two tiny blue eggs :)
My wee Scramble is checking out the nest and is fully red and wattley. It's got to be any day now. None of the others look as developed or are showing any interest yet.
One of the first batch of recent chicks was failing to thrive and I was giving it a drop of Nutridrench and it moved and inhaled the whole big drop right up it's nostril. Now it's gasping for air and looking worse than ever. Sigh.
I just gave 17 eggs to two broody girls, and the first of my last 5 incubator eggs just pipped. Frankly, I'm sick of baby chickens. No more once I sell these for a long dang time!
My Pavlovskaya babies are so different in physical conformation. They stand up very tall and one can see how they turn into the above adult from hatch. I had to raise the heat plate for them! And their legs are, like, bolted onto the side of the chicken vs. the undercarriage. They also seem...
I tried to say that the other day and someone got all over me. But it's true in my experience as well.
I should have Pavlovskaya babies today. 5 of 5 eggs have pipped and 5 more go into lockdown tomorrow.
Live stream if interested. We have a zipper right now:
Hatching has started! First pip! Livestream for the next week, I have a bunch of staggered eggs. Pip is on the lower, left part of the screen on the egg nearest the camera.
8 eggs into lockdown out of 18 shipped. (But 5 are day 16). Water candled my blue eggs before putting them in, I was pretty sure I had a dud from what I could tell with my light candler. Water candling agreed. So, hopefully 3 Crested Cream Legbar babies Wednesday, and 5 Pavlovskaya on...
Babies go into lockdown tonight. (Yeah, I'm late, by like a week in at least one case.) I'll be hatching through Wednesday & Friday, and then my last batch goes into lockdown on Saturday. And then...eggs come again in a week. I have a space problem.
