    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

I hatched out 11 SL chicks so far and I have 11 more due in 2 weeks. By the way, I managed to get those 11 chicks by incubating nearly 150 eggs. Nearly all of them were infertile. Vent feathers have been trimmed, but it didn't help. I think I may need to AI if I really want to get going.

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

Were you able to get the cockerel? Do you have any other pictures of the rooster? It's a bit hard to see, but he seems to have nice type. Do I see a mottled hen in the back? I read that a few people were crossing out to mottled to improve silver laced type. It looks like a great pen. I...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

Here's the rooster that I'm currently working with. As you can see, he has a lot of straight feathers in his tail which is far from cochin type. I've gone back and forth on using him. My other cockerel has better type (not good, but better), but he has white tinted ear lobes and his pattern is...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

This is my favorite pullet from my last hatch. She has decent type and lacing, but her hackle feathers are almost completely black. and here is what used to be one of my best patterned birds. Her feathers were pure white with a thin black stripe on the outer edge, but now with her...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

I have very little experience when it comes to culling, but I would choose boy #2. Based on the pictures, he seems to be a bit "fuller" than boys #1 and #3.

I'm not as experienced as some of the others on this thread, but I'd love to see some pictures.

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

I've never found that to be true. You'll have to wait until they're old enough to show comb and wattle development.

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

In my opinion silver laced cochins are not rare, however, anything of decent quality is extremely rare. Many hatcheries still produce them on a large scale, but with low quality. The problem is that there are very few breeders that are working with them trying to improve type.

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

Oh, and here are the 3 that I hatched out on Easter Sunday. It's not a very good picture of them, but I really like them. The boy in front is Christopher and the 2 pullets following are named Angel and Gloria.

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

I took a few pictures of mine just before dark. Please excuse the mud, it was raining all day and they seemed to enjoy it, haha. Annabelle - 1 year old Lucy - 6 months old Lucy Lacie - 6 months old I tried to get a picture of my silver laced boy Rocky, but he wouldn't sit still...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

How did your ideal hatchery chicks turn out? I was sucked into their "85 cent bantam sale" this spring and I ended up purchasing 55 cochin bantam chicks, but the quality was horrible. Much worse than I had expected. There were a couple that were decent, but overall the quality was very...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

Beautiful! I would love to see more pictures. Is she one of your hatchery birds? Which hatchery did you go through? I found the hen (pictured above, post 26) on craigslist and her owner said that she came from WELP hatchery. I may order a batch of chicks from them next spring in hopes of...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

Mine came from lucky pickens. They aren't the greatest, but they are way better than hatchery stock. You can see pictures of them up above, they are now 4 months old. I just talked to Rosyln (lucky pickens) the other day and she said that her silver laced hens are currerntly molting, but they...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

I took some pictures of my 3 silver laced cochin bantams. I believe they are about 3 months old. Sorry about all the pictures, but I hope you enjoy them. If anyone else has silver laced cochins, please join in.

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

Ohh I just love the silver laced cochin bantams! I hatched out 3 a couple of month ago and this will be my first breeding project. I lucked out with 2 hens and 1 rooster, but I believe the rooster has willow legs so I really shouldn't use him for breeding. Type isn't looking the greatest so...
