Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I don't have a regulator for my Premier. It is hot to the touch (to me), but the chicks seem to like it. When they need the heat, they will press up against to warm up. Other times, they just lay down under it and still get warmth. My current chicks are 2 1/2 wks old now. You will see some...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

This is my second year to use the Premier heat plate. I really liked it last year and love it even more this year. I brought home my English Orps last Tuesday, and they went right under the plate. Never had to show them. They are 3 days old in these pics. They get tired of sleeping...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I used the small one last year for my 21 chicks. It worked great. They had plenty of room. As they grew, the didn't all need to sleep right under it, so some would sleep on the outskirts or even on top of it. I have my premier ready to be turned on tomorrow for my new chicks. I can't believe...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I copied one of my posts below back when I was using my heat plate. When I was using mine, the temps got down into the low 20's upper teens. The temp in the shop was warmer. It has a concrete floor, no insulation and no heater. My chicks did fine.

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I have to say that I really liked my Premier heat plate. I had 21 chicks using it, and there was plenty of room. I used the small one since the large was out of stock when I ordered mine. My chicks are various ages. I have six that were 5 weeks old yesterday, fourteen that will be 6 weeks old...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

My chicks are now 4, 5, and 6 weeks old. I have checked them in the dark the last couple of days, and noticed they are no longer using the heat plate to get under. A couple still sit on top of it, but most are layed up together in the corner. Plenty of room for them to get under it, just seems...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

It's 40 degrees here this morning, so really not all the cold. I went out and tried to get a pic of the chicks with their Premier. It's not all that clear since it was dark and I didn't want to turn the light on and bother them. I have 21 chicks. All are under the Premier except for 3. One of...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I know when I had mine out in the shop, the outside air was 22 degrees, and the air in the shop was 29 degrees. I did have a thin curtain over the top of the brooder, it was to keep them from flying out. The water never froze in the brooder. I have 21 chicks under mine. The box says it is...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I would keep an eye on my account. I do not give out credit information to anyone that calls me and asks for it. There is just no way to know for sure they are who they say they are. Specially since they are calling you multiple times to get the info.

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

My chickies are still happy with mine. If they're not under it or on it, they are using it as a launch pad to practice flying!

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I know when I ordered mine in Feb, I had to get the small one since the large one was on back order until March 1st. I started to order the large and just wait until they come in, but glad I didn't since I got my chicks the day after I got my small premier. I don't put anything on mine. I just...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

What age? Let me see.... The first batch I got a week ago tomorrow. All of those, except for one, will be a week and 4 days old. The older one will be 2 weeks and 4 days old. I have 15 of those. The next batch I got, 6 of them, will be a week old on Tues. Those are my BO's and SLW's. All of...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

We had another winter storm come through last night. Lots of ice/sleet/freezing rain around us. Luckily, we missed the freezing stuff. We did get the cold temps and wind. Temp this morning was 22 degrees on the front porch. Temp inside the shop where the chicks are was 29 degrees . Water was...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

No. I was going to get a thermometer at Wal-Mart, but of course they were out. The temp yesterday morning was 24 degrees. The water outside for my dogs had a coating of ice over it, I had to break it for them to drink. There was no ice in the chicks water, so I'm assuming it did not get below...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

This is per the instructions that come with the Premier Heating Pate: "Some users think they need to use a thermometer to check the temperature underneath the heating plate. This is incorrect and not necessary. You don't put a thermometer under a brooding hen either. The behaviour of your...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

When I first brought my chicks home, they wouldn't go under it at all. I had to keep putting them under it until they got the idea. The first couple of times I went to check on them, I would have to move the heat plate to get them out from under it. They would go eat/drink then huddle in the...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I got my Premier heat plate in yesterday. I had to get the smaller one since the large one was out of stock. I plugged it in to see how it works, seems to work just fine. Sitting on the kitchen table, you could feel that right under it the table was warm, but not hot. The area around the plate...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I decided to get 1 and sent in my order yesterday before cut off time. I only plan on 15-20 chicks with this years order. I want to get used to them and see how it goes before I get more. I'm hoping one of my hens will go broody and I'll be able to let her hatch them out for me next year. If...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I've decided to order a Premier after reading both threads. It seems the large 50 is out of stock until March, so I'll have to order the small 20. Do I order 1 and hope it's enough room or go ahead and get 2 and have plenty of room? Decisions, decisions....
