You could use shavings with PDZ sprinkled on top, which works well. But with the small footprint, you could easily use straight PDZ. Why not try each option and see which you like best? Tina

I forgot to mention that I am mixing PDZ granules with clumping cat litter. I haven't completely switched over to full PDZ in the litter box yet. Tina

Trish, Hope you dont mind a few more questions...how do your silkies manage to get up onto the roost over the poop board...and, are your silkies in your main coop with other large breeds? We are converting our 8' x 16' shed and I've been trying to figure out whether i can put our silkie chicks...

Granules....I can't find anyone who stocks or is willing to order the powder form. I really can't believe how well this stuff works.

I have only been able to purchase the granular type which is fine, like nice sand on a beach. Since our shed is still in the process of being converted to a coop, we have temporary setups for three different age groups of chicks using PDZ. The newest and youngest are now in the living room...

I've been using PDZ in my living room brooder for about 3 weeks with success. It does get kicked into the water like shavings do. So, we've set the waterer up higher and that problem is solved.

I have PDZ in a brooder with silkie and polish babies. Works great, especially since the brooder is in our living room. I am using the granulated form, which does get into the waterer like shavings do. Tina
