That's why I said "presumed" to be a gander as I figured females may mount (even female dogs do!). That particular goose/gander has not laid any eggs yet, but we shall see this spring! I still have both of them, if the last part was directed toward me.

I ended up letting her run thru it. Funny thing is that the other goose (presumed to be a gander as it has been seen on multiple occasions mounting the other) eventually sat with her for a long time and stayed several days after she gave up.

Oh my goodness! My hatchery African (?) decided yesterday to stay on her nest, ugh. I did catch the gander mounting her (along with the silly drake trying, and failing, to join in) a few days ago. They are only 9m old. I can't imagine the eggs are fertile and this time of year seems like a bad...

It wouldn't have bothered me so much if it was a gradual dive but it went from lows in the 40s and 30s to 15 in one day. Weird temperate desert weather doesn't give much time to acclimate to our extremes!

So I have a 3-sided shelter with a roof and my waterfowl still lay in the open in the pen. It is dropping into the teens all of a sudden. I think I'm going to start herding them into the shelter and blocking them in so at least I'LL feel better!

They are the consistency of duck eggs and the flavor is just slightly different than chicken eggs, to me anyway. I would guess they could be rubbery if overcooked. Supposedly, I have allergies to chicken and duck eggs (according to a blood test), although Iseem to have no problem with my own...

Freda and Wilmer are almost all growed up! They are almost 13 wk old. So, goose experts, are they Chinese? Wilmer is getting quite the dewlap, so I wondered if he/she is an African. Freda is the only one who allows petting and he/she squats down when I pet the back of the neck. The tail...

    Raising Geese 101

Does anyone have info on buying adult or adolescent geese? I do not have any but I am starting to consider geese as people on BYC have changed my mind about them! I found a craigslist ad for African Dewlap birds who are 5-7 months old and I wondered if, since they imprint on their humans, they...
