My chicks from TSC are right at a month old and all of a sudden, they look big! Like the black giants are tall and the wyandottes have obvious lacing on real feathers, not just fuzz. When did this happen and how did it sneak up on me when I am out there every morning and evening?
What fun! For him at least.
My 2 year old runs up to the pen of little pullets and yells, "Hi little chicks!" And then introduces himself. Somehow, they are never as happy to see him as he is to see them.
It's cute now; I suspect the same thing at 16 won't be quite the same. ;)
My favorite TSC employee was working yesterday and he hand picked 4 pullets and 2 roos out of the GLW bin. He said the ones with the yellow butt stripes were pullets (think I got that right). He even told me he'd buy any extra roos if he was wrong. He's such a nice guy!
I didn't realize they got different breeds in until yesterday. We went to the closest and only ducks left. But new shipment Monday and Wednesday. The lady didn't know in advance what that would be but said I could call early and find out. Which will be dangerous. I was better off without this info!
Gg...if you are relatively close to the savannah area, I got some speckled Sussex from a man outside of Walterboro SC. Its about an hour and half from Savannah. I have the guys number at work and can pm it to you on monday if you like.
You have a slightly better variety than SC. Reds, Cornish rocks, light brahmas, assorted bantams and just plain ducks. I found the EEs just over the state line in GA. Not that I need even one...
Oh boy, I checked with another fairly local tsc and guess what? Easter Eggers! I thought my husband would object but when I causality mentioned it, he didn't comment. I'm pretty sure lack of objection equals consent. But they are straight run and I sure don't have a clue how to tell them apart...
TSC stores in our area also got chicks in. I called the 4 closest and they all had something different. About 3 varieties each, but nothing exciting enough to lure me there...yet. I wish one had EEs. That would definitely tempt me.
