Hi Lynn, the only problem with allowing the sick chick to get better (usually they do not get better) is that it will become a carrier. You did not mention the symptoms, maybe you could do that.
Even if it does have Mareks does not mean the rest will get it. I would vaccinate any that are...
Hi there and welcome to the forum. I am really sorry for your loss .
First I wanted to say that they rarely ever recover from Marek's and if they do they sill continue to shed the virus in the the feathers and dander. And for what ever reason chickens eat feathers........I've seen mine chase...
I agree for the most part, however, with these 2 vaccines neither is to prevent the disease. Coccidiosis is such a debilitating condition, once they show symptoms even if they survive they don't seem to flourish or ever reach their full potential as the intestinal damage is already done...
Hi there! Coccidosis is just heartbreaking with little chicks. I've done a lot of research on that as well (after my share of losses to it). I vaccinate every single chick that I hatch that I am keeping for coccidia. Unfortunately they have to be vaccinated at a day or two old so if you...
I realize this is not a new thread but ran across it and wanted to add my opinion . There are so many people who still do not realize that:
Marek's vaccine DOES NOT prevent Marek's disease, only the malignant tumors it can cause. They can still get and exhibit signs of the paralysis and...
I would have said no to the turkeys getting mareks as the turkey disease used for the mareks vaccine is a herpes virus, however I read recently that there was a devastating outbreak in mareks in turkeys (chicken mareks disease) in other countries (not in the USA). I guess that would be...
Morning! Yes you are correct. It is my understanding that chickens can still get Marek's disease they just will not develop the malignant tumors. Marek's vaccine was actually the first cancer vaccine (but for poultry of course). A lot of unvaccinated chickens will die early in adulthood...
Coccivac B only covers 3 and the cost is $19 - don't get Coccivac B. There is a new one coming out I believe it covers 2 or 3 more stains. It should be available this month and it is Coccivac D2. I have not used this one yet (obviously....... I think I just had a duh moment )
Have a great...
There is another option to vaccinating. It is a product that I used prior to the vaccines and that is BayCox made by Bayer Animal Health you have to order it from the UK and cost is about $110. They have it for chickens but I bought the one for piglets as it was cheaper and more concentrated...
E.acerrvulina, E.brunetti, E.hagani, E.maxima, E.mirati, E.necatrix, E.praecox, and E.tenella
Failure depends on so many variables. Was the vaccine good, was it administered correctly, and did they ingest
enough oocysts to give a good immunity.
Having said all that, it is a much better...
Hi Arielle! I use drugs and vaccines off label as well, but ya never know when someone would have a reaction to something that I might have suggested. I was just protecting myself by adding a tiny disclaimer that I wasn't suggesting everyone do what I did.
(I tried to find 'Dr. Browns'...
You are welcome! You all have some really good valid points and information. I happened on this forum by accident, nice to meet you all, thanks for all the info and have a wonderful weekend!
For inquirey minds.......Regardless to opinions, even by medical professionals, these are the actual instructions. Click on each and it will enlarge so it can be read.
Just for informational purposes.
PS......Just wanted to add I am in no way suggesting you use any vaccine for 'off label' use like dividing Mareks vaccine because leadwolf1 is absolutely correct with everything they said. Just saying what I do with my own chickies.
