THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

I woke to two more chicks this morning, then a third later, then a fourth early this afternoon. I think we may be done for this hatch, as the last two have not pipped. I guess it's only day 22, so I will certainly wait another day or two, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to hatch. So my...

Thank you for the tips, Joy. I did steam up our bathroom - kept the shower running on hot with the drain plugged, ran the sink water, closed windows and door, etc. It was like a sauna in there. My daughter went in and said, "Wow! It's wet in here! I think the chicks will be fine!" I pulled out...

Thanks for checking in! Here's a link to my hatching thread, for those who are interested. As of today (day 21), I have at least a dozen hatched. It's a big party in there. Woke up to lots of fuzzy babies this morning. The first hatched yesterday around 3:30, then second around 8 p.m. There...

I plan to open once or twice, in a bathroom filled with steam, to remove some chicks. I'm not all that worried, as newly hatched chicks often hang out under their mama in very crowded conditions (being sat upon!) for hours and hours before peeking out. I figure they can handle a stuffed...

Okay, I just put 28 eggs into lockdown. Someone with experience tell me they're going to be okay! They can't lie flat; too many eggs. People hatch in egg cartons, right, so having the eggs leaning on each other should be just as fine? I figure it's not all that roomy underneath a broody hen...

The rocking of the incubator does, indeed, make a difference. You know, because heat rises and all that. Last year, I used both the included glass thermometer and a digital with a probe stuck right at the level of the eggs, and the glass thermometer was always higher. So this year, I'm just...

I have only done one hatch, last year, so I'm not the most experienced. But I decided not to bother with a hygrometer, and just kept one trough filled up most of the time. I just checked my notes, and I only filled it three times in the first 18 days. Sometimes it dried out altogether, so I...

I fit 30 in there! I used the method shown in this YouTube video - no dividers, 7 staggered columns of 4 each - plus I stacked the two extra on top. I had miscounted, as well; I only have 4 Buckeye eggs, but 26 BO eggs. Will post pics tomorrow or Mon, as I find time.

Oh, I don't intent to hatch 30 eggs in there, LOL. In my checking for fertiles in the weeks prior, I have noticed that I'm only getting 70-80 % fertile, so I expect that once I candle, the incubator will be down to normal capacity. I hatched 10 poults and 5 chicks last May, and it sure was a...

I've seen pictures of people stacking and removing the dividers, so I might give it a go. I haven't actually put the eggs in yet; waiting for the Brinsea to get up to temp. If it gets too tricky or dicey, I'll just fit as many as I can and save the rest for breakfast. :)

I'm starting my first hatch of the year tonight - 30 large fowl eggs (24 Buff Orpington, 6 Buckeye) from our own flock. I'll toss the clears in a week or so. I have not stuffed this incubator before (my first Brinsea Octagon Eco hatch was last year - 13 turkey eggs, 5 chicken eggs, no stuffing...
