Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

Thank you. And sorry for your loss. Perhaps your hen had some sort of calcium deficiency? Even if you took her to a vet, there may not have been anything they could have done. Did tour other hen recover?

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

I know, I just thought maybe I could have ended her pain a bit earlier... oh well. What's done is done. Thank you for your condolences.

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

I know this thread ended a while ago, but feel the need to share the sad end of this dilemma with my hen. After she "got better" she had a relapse of these same symptoms in the middle of April. I thought she would magically get better again, but she seemed to be doing worse than ever. I was...

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

Thanks! Mine actually molted while she was recovering. Did you try worming her? Also, my vet told me calcium is good for getting their systems moving. Is she getting enough? My bird was, but she still recommended a supplement a supplement anyways.

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

Sorry i haven't updated. I've been very busy! The good news i she has fully recovered. She is eating, running around, and her poop is normal again (it did take about two weeks for her poop to return to normal). The problem is, I have no idea what was wrong with her. I gave her so many meds...

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

True. ^ As an update, she of finished with all her meds, but still has to be wormed. She has been more lively, eating more, and her comb has not been purple, but her poop is still abnormal looking. Maybe she just needs time? Otherwise she seems to be doing ok at the moment

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

Yes this is the product I have. I was just confused because someone who I very experienced with chickens and pigeons, and has used this before told me a different dose. And I am aware that oxy is not calcium. The calcium supplement I have is vet prescribed.

Upadate: I was able to pick up the calcium supplement today. 1.25-2.5 tbsp? Wow that sound like a lot. I used 3/4 teaspoon today and it dyed the water yellow. I though the was a lot. I don't know what she has, so which dosage should I use? Can I overdose? All my birds are drinking it since I put...

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

So I got a fortunate call today. My vet office just so happen to get in a liquid calcium supplement that had a dosage that can be figured out (they had another one, but it wasn't easy to figure out a dosage/wasn't good for birds). I'm going Friday to pick it up. I also started oxytetracycline...

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

Probably about 4 pounds. She did not give me any meds because I could buy then at the feed store. She told me to email her what supplement I would be using (oyster shell in this case) and she'd help me figure it out, but the instructions she gave me seemed like a small dose. The reason she...

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

So I took her to the vet and she thinks it's either egg binding or some sort of parasite/bacterial infection. She is on a 4 day anti-inflammatory because her abdomen feels extended. She also recommended I use a broad spectrum wormer (I will be ordering the valbazen stuff recommended here) and...

Lethargic Hen with Watery, Undigested Poop

That stinks. My vets know birds, but I'm not sure how many know chickens. The one bird vet that actually had chickens transferred to another office, unfortunately. So I'm hoping I'll get one that's at least worked with chickens before. I'm not 100% sure about my current one.

Hm. I'll look into it more tomorrow, but I really want to see the vets opinion again on Monday.

I never even considered sour crop, but this is the first day I've noticed this. How would you treat sour crop?
