Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

Exactly! It was a trial getting both those hens food and water on the floor every day, multiple times each day, with the four others scratching shavings into their water and eating their food rather than the food in the wall PVC feeder. This way, they don't have to put up with that and neither...

Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

Hey, all. Adding to the thread because we made a new addition to one of the barn pens, a double "condo" for two very arthritic (as in, lost use of one leg to it) hens in our Old Hens' Retirement Home & Hospice pen. They had a double dog bowl and it was murder trying to manage them with others...

Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

Thank you, Mary! Another nice thing about this particular building is when the human door is open on one end and the roll-up door is open on the other, it moves a lot of air through the building, that plus all five windows being open at the same time and the overhead fan. It's very nice going...

Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

Thought I'd update this thread. After having my chickens in the barn for just over a year, we are still very pleased with this arrangement. I am not used to having to let them out in groups, not having pop doors so they all go in pens for just that group, but as they pass away and we have fewer...

I'm not sure what kind it is, probably Victoria, but it's been awhile since we planted it. It was in a different location and we moved it down there, which was the bottom of what used to be the pen of the main coop, lots of good composted "chicken dirt". It produced way into summer last year...

Shelves up in the storage area finally. We may not do anything more in there for awhile. Garden coming along. Rhuuuuuuubarb! It likes it down there in the jungle.

Thanks. They are becoming so awesome, I hate that no one has claimed them by now. I always fall in love with them. ETA: In case you checked our FB page for BRC and know what's happening, we still own our domain name, Blue Roo Creations, but due to LH's illness, which is explained on our...

Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

Thank you. Now, I have to stop to eventually get fabric for the backing since I never keep large yardages of anything. I did make a quilt for the cat since he insists on zeroing in on any quilt I'm making here. What is it with cats and quilts?? I keep my craft room door closed almost all the...

Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

We did some of the loft space today, over the # 6 pen. Have brackets for a table/shelf at waist level in the back of the storage corner but DH lost his balance on the ladder (wasn't locked well) and wrenched his back. When he fell back off of it, he hit my left hand, which pulled my middle...

Well, then, I guess I'd better learn to use that new mower! I could use a relaxing ride around the pasture...and around...and around....

Actually, I don't think we own the push one now. You could never use that up here.

I used to do the push mower, but not happening on that pasture, nosirree! I really do need to learn to operate that mower. It's a pretty good one, though husband says it doesn't back up/maneuver like our ancient Weedeater one that is broken in the middle of the pasture. That one blew an engine...

Cutting plywood to shape would be no problem, just framing it out with the angles would take some time. I'm sure we'll figure it out. Not sure what we'll tackle next, depends on DH. He has to drive 25 miles south to get a new MRI on his back tomorrow in prep for going to a pain clinic an hour...

Maybe, would have to measure it and see. It wouldn't cover the entire exposed floor, which is shaped like a trapezoid, sort of, unless I could figure a way to cut a larger one than was needed down to size and shape.

Sorry, I leaned over the edge to take the picture and it tilted.

Probably, but meeting the slant side might be tricky. Could leave it as-is, but I really want to cover the floor somehow. I guess if DH can build that little six sided Firetower coop he designed and built years ago, he can figure out the angles, but his back is worse now so I try to keep things...

The floors are done except the area where all the sections meet in front of the roll up door. Not sure how to connect them all but will do something, maybe just some 2x4s on their wide sides and plywood attached to them, which will be lower than the other floors, but will cover the bare...

Sounds exactly like Ladyhawk's elderly neighbor (mid 80's) who is caring for her brain damaged granddaughter (her daughter died of drug overdose, granddaughter fell out of a truck or something and hit her head, in her 40's or 50's now). They mooch off her, won't take her to get her medicine or...

Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

You hit the nail on the head. Couldn't have said it better myself. And to add to that, kids tend to see their parents as they did when they and the parents were younger. They don't see the parents having more and more health issues, or just plain old age creakiness, and they tend to rely on the...
