What about a collar like you would use for a cat/dog to prevent scratching wounds. You could leave on during the day and remove at night,purchase from a vet or make your own.
I too am very happy to hear he is improving. Many of us do all that we can and fight till the bitter end for them. I have proceeded in giving care to many animals where most would have given up,my thought is if the animal is showing signs of fighting to live,then i will fight for them.

I agree that cipro(baytril)should be given for this infection,if it has turned into cellulitis and op has been using penicillin with no results than a stronger antibiotic is called for. Cellulitis can spread to the bloodstream causing a serious bacterial infection throughout the body called sepsis.
I agree with Kathy,try and cut into wound again. I would also suggest you use a 3-5% diluted peroxide solution,reason being that certain staph infections are resistant to iodine. They can also become resistant to penicillins,this may be why you see no change. My concern is that this infection...
