He looks good if he is as young as he looks. Needs to grow a fuller breast. That is the last place they fill out usually. Nice length of back and a good looking tail coming in........stan
I understand that. I need the visual explanation! I'll check the next time I get a look at some from my cross. I have been promised eggs....... I really like the blues, and want to breed to standard, but not sure I'm serious enough to drive to Vermont! Never know though. I'm retired now and did...
Thanks for the explaination Joe. I hope to see some pics from you in the next couple of generations. Still not sure that I have a grasp on the difference between edging and lacing.....I never did hold a feather up in front of a white piece of paper. True lacing is a black edge on a white...
Not sure I understand the term 'from under white'? Was this a white rock with a recessive blue gene?? As for the Andalusian cross, I thought that all blues came from andalusian? Is this not true? And if so, why go to another breed? Why not just use a poorer quality blue rock to get the same...
Yep, I mean it would be best to put the splash cock over black hens......you will get 100% blue and it is supposed to be cleaner, without the brassiness, or brownish bleed thru. Next choice for me would be barred hens. The last choice would be splash over splash. You will get 100% splash...
Would love to have him over a few blacks! Looks good Maria.....Our move is in the very near future. We are due to close on the 30th of Sept. Now if we just had a place to go to!!
I picked up my first Blues from Kathy on the way home from your place!! I have bred a Halo splash to my Good Shepherd barreds to get sex links. I'm up here in SC now, but don't have time to come by and see you. Maybe next trip when it's warmer up here!!.......stan
I think she is using a single barred male because that is what she has. Same reason I am using a blue single barred male. They are all sex links from GS pullets and a splash cock, so all of the males are single barred, all of the pullets blue laced. Next generation we will be able to breed...
A blue pullet from Halo's line that is not from GS breeding. Her lacing is as good as the lacing from the GS hens though. I Just don't know about the edging. They all seem to be laced with the black to me, but I will look closer this afternoon when I get home. Maybe I need to go back and look at...
I do not understand how the Barred Rocks would help with lacing, which requires the pattern gene (Pg). But, at any rate, if anyone has Blue Rock males with lacing like the pullet above, proper Rock body shape, tight feathering, and proper leg color, I would love to see pictures!
This is a...
I have some of Halo's blues in the incubator now, going on day 5! hope to get some as nice as these. Cynthia, is that light blue what would be called self blue?? Didn't know that was a possibility! She's a cutie for sure. Hope Kathy gave me a couple of them. ...........stan
