I've noticed one of my little chicks- some type of bantam I was told- Has a crossed beak or it doesn't line up properly. at 6-8 weeks old and as crooked as it is now what is the usual outcome?

Is this going to be a losing battle?

Crossbeaks can live long lives with some special care. Generally it is easier to feed them wet food that they will scoop up in their beaks.

Obviously they should never be used for breeding projects. If you're keeping it as a pet and can give it time it will do fine probably, but otherwise you may just want to cull it.

ETA: It looks like a sultan chicken.

I had one, and it seemed like it was doing fine. Then when it died, I realized how thin it was. My theory was, the bigger the bird got, the harder it was for the bird to get enough food for her size. I was using dry food.

If you keep her, weigh her often.

Thanks for the replies. I will add wet food to his menu. He came with a group of bantam/silkie mixes but now that I see sultan pics they are definitely similar. Thanks again

I have one too. So far so good, but she is only about 8 wks. I'll try to add some wet food for her that's a great idea. Any particular kind? Or just moisten the dry already there?

my crossbeak chicken. named Crisscross...18 w old Barred Rock hen. I am assuming. Although she has very dark legs and her colors seems lighter compared to other 2 barred rocks. Seems to be doing ok. Giving her some soft mash made of grower feed. cooked flaked oat groats, bit of plain greek yogurt....loves it.

she is the one in front of RIR
It was not noticible till around 8-9wks. Still wondering roo or hen?
