Because of the 100 degree temps, I've only completed 10 feet of the coop. I will add on another 10 feet in Oct. or Nov, when it cools off. Last night was their first not in the their coop. They were spending their nights in the guinea coop and they all got along great. I know they'll need their own coop come mating time. This coop is just like my guinea coop, Open Air, but has 1/2" hardware cloth instead of 1" that's on the guinea coop. In very bad weather, I lower the curtains. I didn't much like the way the door came out, but it will wait 'til it cools off. It's secure, and I want to change the hardware. I bought black hinges and handle.

I use 2x4x10 for the top and bottom-2x4x8 for the ends. Right now the length is 10 feet and the ends (width) are 8ft . The height is 5 foot and the peak (ridge beam is 6 ft. The geese don't need it high and I'm only 5 ft, so anything higher would be wasted. My guinea coop is 8x20 and 8 ft at the ridge beam.

I had open air when I lived in VA. I set up dog kennels (chain link) and put a carport over the top. I had gotten heavy thick felt from a paper company. I cut the felt to the size and used that for curtains. I don't know if it's cheaper to do air open, but it sure is healthier. They don't smell ammonia or sit in their feces. I used 1/2" hardware cloth, but it was only 19 gauge. I will never work with that again. The guinea coop was a much thicker gauge, hard to cut, but didn't fold up. That was 1" square. I roll up the curtains in the morning, after a rainy night or a very cold winter night. Mostly, the birds need protection from bitter cold and windy days/nights.

It looks great, did you do this all by yourself? Love the pic of your Dewlaps they are so pretty.

Yes, I do everything by myself. I have to think about what I'm going to do and that may take a day or two, like putting up a ridge beam. I have to use my brain, rather than brawn. I do like building things and was disappointed that I couldn't finish.the coop another 10 feet, but it will get done. To extend the coop another 10 ft, I will have to take down one end, extend the coop and put back that end. It will require a bit more work, but I was getting sun stoke out there, so it will have to wait 'till Oct. Right now, I think they really like having their own place. They were visiting me while I was building, I think they knew it was for them.LOL!!!
