I have a hen (named pretty girl

) with what I think Is an abscess on her back. probably from mating. it was a big lump that I cleaned out a bunch of cheesy dried puss out of, and now she has a huge open sore on her back

. it has already come back once, and it smells pretty awful. I want to pack it with something but I heard Neosporin is toxic to chickens...is there anything like it that isn't? I am thinking I need to do some sort of systemic antibiotic?

I cleaned it out again and she is in "sick bay" (an unused brooder) any advice would be welcome...

Neosporin without the 'pain killer' ingredient is fine to use. Make sure that she does not suffer fly strike. Such wounds generally take a while to heal as they do from the 'outside in'.
