Hi BYC buddies,

My parents have just rehomed 8 chickens from a family in the village who essentially emotionally blackmailed them 🫣 There are 7 hens and 1 rooster. I will see them myself tomorrow by my mum sent me this pic of a wound on the rooster.

I think it looks more like an abscess than a tumour from this first glance? I plan to try and clear out the pus, assuming it’s full of it, flush it and pack it with ointment and see how we go? My animal first aid kit is pretty well stocked but I’ve never had to clear out something like this before. I will do my best for this little guy.

That looks like it could be a breast blister. If it is, you should be able to remove the chunks of pus. Let me go look for pictures of the one that I did.

Well, I did my best with help from my fiancé. We removed all the pus we could. It looks in the pic like some is remaining but I think that is fatty tissue. It bled a little but nothing major and I hope the bandage will stay put… we tried to be efficient and get it done quickly.

He was very baffled and thrashed around a bit when we put him in his temporary coop. I think it was just the feeling of something wrapped around him? I tried not to do it too tight. Went back to check him an hour or two later and he was lying quietly. We shall see!
