I free range in the afternoons and I have 2 tiny dogs I'm worried about! They are also roosting on my roof! We just put the coop in about 3 weeks ago.
We haven't finished the landscape!

Yikes.

Are they Black Vultures or Turkey Vultures? Black Vultures are more dangerous and may go after little animals or peck at their eyes. Turkey Vultures prefer dead things. Our dogs chase Turkey Vultures away when they see them flying near-by.

I'm not sure. I was assuming black vulture. They were on our deck and my 10 pound dog starry barking 3 feet from them and they didn't budge. We I came running they jumped up casually on the roof and stared right back!

Those are bold birds! They should move on their way soon if they aren't nesting there. This time of year is when babies are maturing. In a few months they will prepare to migrate, so I don't think they have fixed territories at this point. But that is just my thought.

Indeed black vultures are more likely to actively hunt than just scavenge.

Contact your local DNR to find out what your options are, they may be designated as birds of prey and protected from extermination or even harassment.
