I live in Arizona on a nice little ranch.
I have chickens and am now looking for
Call ducks and Mandarins.
I would like show quality.
They will be pets but I would like the option to show
If I want to.
Thanks
Julie

Me and my brother just got call ducks and mandarins from a guy in Flora, MS, and his birds are beautiful and after some time warm up to you and stuff, i dont think he ships till they are older though and then they are extremely hard to tame but they are very pretty :) but be warned mandarins are super hard to tame and will badly let you go near them without having a panic attack if you dont get them as juveniles, but its best to get them as adults because they can over stress and hurt themselves or have a panic attack and well... but once they calm down nd warm up to you ( after months) They can be good pets

My concern is, if you intend to show them you can't clip their wings. But both calls and mandarin ducks can fly, so unless you're taking every precaution to prevent that from happening, you could wind up losing your best drake or hens.

I think you should decide now whether you want to keep pets, or raise show ducks. Showing birds requires a lot of commitment, and they need to be at the peak of health and top condition. You will also likely want to breed them to continue their line should you get a champion, and that's both a time AND a money investment.

Ultimately the choice is up to you, but I decided to give up my show aspirations and just focus on having some awesome call duck pets instead. <3

And also mandarins don't show well they get really stressed out and most of the judges will disqualify them for not being 'tame' birds

And I've also decided to give up showing i did it once and i did really well but my ducks were really un happy like i felt really bad for taking them.

it shouldn't be a problem to clip wings but you'll have to catch them.....
