I have a 11 month old broody silkie. I have tried kicking her out of the egg box over and over, and I've tried moving her into the garage. She is so broody she is hardly eating and is losing weight. She does eat a few times a day, but not very much. I added a vitamin supplement to her water, but she is acting strangely. When she is out of the egg box, she stands on one foot, with the other foot curled up, and sometimes she appears to be shaking. There is no injury to her feet and no leg mites. Is she shaking because she is so mad she is out of the egg box, or is there something else going on here.

Please help, I'm confused on what else to do for her. She is eating a little this morning, and nibbled on some squash I gave her too.

Some birds tremble when held, but shaking is not normal. Could she have mites? How long has she been broody?

I hope I can help.

It's been about a week now. I thought about mites and lice so I have been treating her, the coop, and all the other chickens with sevin dust, poultry protector, and diatomaceous earth. I've tried everything I can think of. She also ruffles her feathers a lot, so I looked closely for lice and I can't see anything. I'll check again today. :barnie

Broody chickens do ruffle and stretch after getting off of a nest, since they are a little stiff. However, the standing on one leg and shaking sounds like she may have sprained something.

Thank you for your help. I took her out of the egg box this morning for a few hours and she ate so much she had a substantial crop going on, I also checked for lice again and her skin was very clean. I still can't make sence of the standing on one leg.. But here is a picture of her feet incase I am missing something that you can see..
