Hi,

I currently have 2 three week old Serama hens that I am keeping indoors. I have 4x8 coop with an 8x12 run currently being built. I have 2 Rhode Island Reds that are free ranging right now, and I am expecting 2 Buff Orpington and 2 Easter Egger pullets coming in 2 weeks. How likely is it that this group can live in relative peace in my coop? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Chances are GOOD , since I have always had a mixed flock and they got along well. ( serama including ) You must also be a realist and understand that your 2 week old seramas are tiny. It would not take much pecking behavior to injure tiny chicks.. Introduce them gradually and see how the interaction goes. I got my serama when she was about 2 years old. Introduced her to the flock and she carried her own well.

In my opinion your chickens are not of the vicious variety. Remember there will always be some chasing activity to establish the pecking order.. This can not be avoided.. Provide hiding places for the less dominant to escape to. The dominant chickens do not go on a prowl looking to hurt the lesser. What they don't see as a challenge to their pecking order, they usually leave alone.

ABOVE ALL WISHING YOU BEST AND
