Has anyone ever given their chickens Wazine wormer by an oral syringe? If so how much did you give one bird?

I have 5 chickens that need worming.

I have wormed them according to the dosage recommendation and mixed it with water. I took up all their water (except wormer water) and it took the 2-3 days to drink the water. I don't think the wormer has been successful, because they didn't consume the proper amount in one day. There have not been any worms in their poop and they still are very puny looking. Their legs are also very pale, but combs and beaks are fine in color.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The dosage is one ounce wazine per one gallon of water for 24 hours only. That means that you put the water out for them to drink PRIOR to letting them out of the hen house first thing in the morning. Chickens are hungry and thirsty after being cooped up all night and will feed and drink once they are let out of the hen house. You do not syringe feed 5 chickens one gallon of treated water. They drink the treated water on their own until they go to hen house for the night. Then you discard the treated water...and you are done worming them. Then replace with regular freshwater for them to drink the following morning.
You will not see worms in feces unless they were infested with worms. Worms are paralyzed by the wormer and the worms are digested as protein.
Once birds are wormed, dont expect birds to gain weight and not look puny the next day. It takes time to put weight back on. However, birds that have been wormed wont be lethargic, will start eating and drinking normally, be more active and acting like a chicken should.
Pale legs, beaks have nothing to do with worms. However, pale combs can possibly indicate a worm problem as well as mites, molt, old age, or other illnesses.
If you want to give a wormer orally with a syringe that will get rid of all types of worms that a chicken can get, purchase Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer. Dosage is 1/2cc given orally undiluted to each chicken. Redose again in 10 days to kill larva missed by the first dosing. Here's a link where you can purchase Valbazen:

Ok, thank you. I did as the bottle directed me to do and they apparently found water else where, b/c there was water in the container for a few days. My birds free range and I mean free range, they roam 5 acres freely everyday, once they are out of their coop/pen. So I'm just not sure if they got the wormer they should have. :/

I was just asking if Wazine could be divide down to just one bird and give orally, so there's a certainty they are treated. I'm fairly certain there's an investation, as I found a worm in an egg. Other people have told me that if a worm makes it to the egg then there's probably an infestation... :( True? I don't know...

Actually it's rare that a worm is found in an egg but it happens as you found out, and really doesnt necessarily mean there's an infestation, but it's possible.
It would be best to pen them up for one day and provide all of them the treated water. OR, purchase the valbazen and dose them individually, that way you KNOW they got properly wormed with a more effective/better wormer.
Lastly, you can mix 8cc's of wazine to 1 quart of water and give this to your hen to drink throughout the day to be effective with gut coverage. I DONT recommend giving her this amount via syringe, there's too high a risk that she will aspirate...then there will be big problems.
Keep in mind that chickens do NOT drink the same amount of water during the day, it could be more or less. I dont recommend

I am so confused! I'm sure I need to worm the girls but am getting conflicting information on Byc as to what protocol to follow: valbazen wazine safeguard, oral, drop on etc. They've been on natural preventatives their whole life (my oldest cluckers are 4 plus year old australorps that occasionally muster up an egg. Actually the two grandma sisters headed to the coop together and laid matching eggs within 5 minutes of each other yesterday). Last year, the flock and I moved from a tiny city plot in coastal California to an acre in the Central Valley and have had health and safety challenges ever since. I know they have heterakis gallinarum because they turned up in my chicken pooping eating dog's fecal (after a very expensive gi upset). I gave them Wazine in their water a week ago. Is valbazen the next step? Does it kill Cecal worms too? Please advise.

Well I would study Dawg53's advise and worm with Valbazen as it is to kill more worms and individually wormed method.
wazine is a waste of time and money in worming chickens as it only get round worms.
You also need the et mas probiotic recipe I havegiven many many people over 3 deades of doing so
It is o help the body recover from such stress as worming with medications.
My WET MASH PROBIOTIC RECIPE withVit E and Vit B Complex and Selenium added to the wet mash

is very good for all chickens especially sick chickens.

For this problem I recommend my wet mash probiotic with yoguart be given.

I prefer to use the wet mash probiotic that includes chicken feed, yoguart and milk with applesauce

because chickens will eat the yoguart completely in the wet mash where as some chickens will not just eat yoguart ans it gets on their beaks, of which then they throw it away when cleaning the beaks

as you will notice if staanding too close to them eating the yoguart

So read on down where I give the recipe

some advice for helping the chicken get over the lathargice

I would suggest and advanced case of E.coli.

due to the illness the chicken has.

With all that is noted here is some good help that I have found to work for the health of the chicken

So here is what I would do at this time to help the chicken get to feeling better

This is for single bird and I would isolate the bird so you know what she is eating

if you do not have a rabbit cage you can put her in the garage in a dog carrier till she is better

I would start with the Vit E and Vit B complex and selenium with wet mash

A)

chickens do get some upset in the gut with E.coli and then it goes to a nervous disorder

natural probiotic wet mash with Vit E and Vit B complex nd selenium added immediately

basically the chicken has some nerve damage from the E.coli do this immediately

need neurolodigal vit E and Vit B complex and Selenium for E.coli and the nervous disorder Also the apple cider vineager in water

(1) 2 tbsp acv per gallon of water till chickens are well and then 2 times a week for life

for one chicken use 1 tbsp of ACV

1 pint of water IF DOCTORING WITH MEDICATION DO NoT USE ACV IN WATER

until the chicken is off medication

(2 immediately give the chicken 1000 mg capsule of liquid Vit E by cutting the end of the capsule and taking the vit E liquid and mix in wet mash probiotic

(2-B) total amt of capsules equals the total amt of chickens fed vit's multiply amt of recipe times amt of chickens fed it and the amt of vit's times amt of chickens given them

(3 also need to crush a vit B complex pill in tabsp and add tsp of water to it

put it in the chickens wet mash after it is dissolved.

D the same with the Selenium tablet and add to wet mash

(3-C) then give this to the chicken twice a week for two weeks should see much improvement

after the chicken has eaten the wet mash probiotic clean wet feeder and restock dry crumble feed.

(4 Do three Vit's twice today then for 7 days till you see some improvement in the chicken

(5 today I would see if the chicken will eat a wet mash with the Vitamins E and B complex and Selenium

(-B) THIS IS FOR ONE CHICKEN

natural probiotic wet mash

2 tbp of dry crumbles

1 tbsp flax seed meal (the kind people take)

3 tbp of milk sweet, sour or buttermilk

1 tbsp of non flavored yogurt

2 tbsp of apple sauce

put it on top so the chicken can smell and see it

mix good and put the

vit E liquid as directed in the wet mash

and crumble the Vit B complex tablet in a tabsp and add to the wet mash

do same with Selenium tablet and add to wet mash.

**BESURE AND MIX VIT'S VERY GOOD IN WET MASH***

(6 Do this twice a day for 7 days to see if the chicken is better

then do this once a day for another week then once a week for a while

this should give the nervous system some stability and cure the bad E.coli in the gut

(6-A) they should clean it up in 20-30 minutes

this will help them get good gut flora

also put 2 tbsp of ACV in gallon of water and keep giving them this water for a week straight

then give it 3-5 times a week for life

Did you take the poop to get tested to know what exact worms you are needing to treat for?

Wazine kills large roundworms only. If you treated with that a week ago, do a follow up with Wazine at day 10-14

If you decide to treat with Valbazen or Safeguard you will need to retreat in 10 days even though you already used Wazine once.

Don't bother with ivermectin pour on, injectable, or oral, it's not a reliable wormer.

Call your dog vet and ask them if they will check some chicken poop for you. If you're close to Davis, Turlock, or Tulare, have the CAHFS lab do some fecals.

What made you ak about CECAL WORMS?

Here's what I found:
Cecal Worms

This parasite (Heterakis gallinae) is found in the ceca of chickens, turkeys and other birds.

This parasite apparently does not seriously affect the health of the bird. At least no marked symptoms or pathology can be blamed on its presence. Its main importance is that it has been incriminated as a vector of Histomonas meleagridis, the agent that causes blackhead. This protozoan parasite apparently is carried in the cecal worm egg and is transmitted from bird to bird through this egg.

The life history of this parasite is similar to that of the common roundworm. The eggs are produced in the ceca and pass in the feces. They reach the infective form in about two weeks. In cool weather, this may take longer. The eggs are very resistant to environmental conditions and will remain viable for long periods.

The cecal worm can be effectively treated with fenbendazole. Since the worm itself produces no observable damage and the eggs live for long periods, it is advisable and necessary to keep chickens and turkeys separated to prevent spread of blackhead.
