So I met a guinea (no idea of the gender- that's really hard to tell, right?) yesterday who is living in a shelter with a couple roosters. I have always wanted guineas and I planned on getting them as soon as I close on my new 5 acre property (I am on a much smaller parcel right now with close neighbors) on Sept 22nd. Obviously this guinea is fine living with chickens which is what he/she would do at my house until the move, but my concern is how much noise a single guinea will make. I have watched videos of big groups of them sounding the alarm, but this one was very quiet and only really made noise at all when I played a youtube video of other guineas- and then it made a sad noise because it wants friends :-(
So guinea people- do you think a single guinea makes more noise than a flock of chickens? I don't want to upset my neighbors with the move still a month away. Also do they have different space requirements? I know a lot of people free range their guineas and lock them up at night, but this one would need to live in 10x10 2 story coop and only free range in the evening while I can watch because of the neighbors. Thanks for your input!

A single guinea hen can make more noise than a flock of chickens if she is constantly making the buckwheat call. If the guinea in question is being quiet with the roosters that it is with, perhaps you should keep the group together since the guinea is already comfortable with them.

Rehoming the guinea by itself would require you to keep the guinea penned for a substantial amount of time while it learns that this is home now. You would also need to go through the same procedure when you move to your new location. It is probably best to just wait until you are moved so that the guinea does not have to go through two moves right away.

Good luck.
