hello everyone i was curios if anyone kept rail type birds like coots , moorhens, swamp hens gallinules and if so how you guys take care of them and dont forget bunches of pics if you have them

Check the GBWF Forum as I believe there are some people who have them and there are discussions about them on that forum. I have a friend who has Wood Rails, but I do not know anything about them yet unfortunately.
 
ok thank you and do you know to own one if permits are necessary ? other than for the swamphen who was introduced if i remember correctly
 
For MBTA listed species of coot, gallinule, rail, etc, you will need a USFWS special purpose permit as well as whatever your state requires. You must have the permit before getting the birds. If you are serious about getting into "shorebirds" Google Spurwing or Lapwing Plover or African Black Crake. There are African Purple Swamphens (porphyrio porphyrio) on Softbillsforsale.com right now. These exotics do not require a special purpose permit as they are not MBTA birds. I would recommend more research.
 
thank you very much those are some neat looking plovers i had the chance to help raise a killdeer but thought it looked like a rather frail easily killed bird but later i found out they practically feed and drink themselves
