Hi I have a young rooster who started limping a week ago, and a few days after that I found him on his back. On examining him I found a spot of bumblefoot in between his toes. I treated him with Baytril, soaking in warm Epsom salts soak, and Neosporin on the bumblefoot scab. After a few days, the bumblefoot scab fell off and was scarred over. He seemed to be a little better, obviously felt better, is eating well, and can limp around, but he is still very lame and when I examined him today I think there might be a slight amount of swelling in his foot pad. Also I noticed that he's very sensitive (like ticklish) is his good foot, but in the bad one he does not respond at all if I touch it. I can't tell if he thinks it feels good when I touch it, or if he can't feel me touching it, but anyway he doesn't flinch away. He no longer falls on his back, and hasn't exhibited any neuro symptoms. I am still soaking him but have dropped it to every other day. I am still applying neosporin to his foot pad, and I still have him on Baytril and give him baby aspirin a couple of times a day. I am wondering if maybe he has nerve damage or still some infection in the foot? Also, he is very skinny. I thought about giving him an injection in the breast muscle with something like penicillin, but I don't think he has enough breast muscle to do that. I don't know why this is, as he's been dewormed, and his droppings are normal. He eats all his food and can forage a little bit when he's out in the tractor. Because of the failure to gain weight, I'm wondering if this is Marek's kicking in, though he has not deteriorated at all in other ways. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

OK, I can see I'm getting no response here, but I will try again. Having researched more, I wonder if he could have gout, and not bumblefoot? Maybe the thing on his foot was just a callous and not the source of his lameness?
