We have 2 pet ducks, an Indian Runner & a Khaki Campbell. We are first time duck owners and have had them about 4 months now. We have managed pretty well this summer at keeping them cool and well watered. My question is keeping them warm In the winter. It is probably 30 degrees at the coldest at night here. Will I have a problem with freezing at 30 degrees? And if so, what is the best thing to keep them warm over night? I do not have a barn. They are backyard ducks that hang out with our dog and come inside from time to time to visit. Thanks

I ended up moving our ducks into a pen in the walkout basement, as some of my Runners really were hurting in the cold, and all of them stopped laying until they could be near 40F at night.

We can dip into the teens here at night in the winters.
The ducks are in their house and the chicken in hers with no additional worries. If their pool freezes, we just crack the top so they have water. The pond, they stand on and look bewildered, but then it thaws later in the morning and is good to go.

Welcome to BYC! I'm in Gilroy, CA and my ducks live outside 24/7. Where in CA are you?
