So I got 3 little hatchlings, all supposed to be hens... Well at 4 months one was obviously a Roo as he started crowing... Needless to say we were very surprised. This is our first year with our wonderful flock... Now I have 2 hens left but one is starting to crow.. Omg, please tell me they can mimic the males.... How do we tell the difference between the males and females? They are 4 1/2 to 5 months old.

Post some pics of the suspected male, but almost 100% of the time if a chickens is crowing that young its a rooster. Look for pointy saddle feathers just before the tail.

At this age, the difference should be pretty apparent. Roosters will have a larger comb, and in this breed the males get black tail feathers. And crowing means male, sorry.....post pics to confirm who is what.

So I am trying to get my photos loaded onto this computer but after all your replys I feel certain that these are all roosters. So my question now is, do I contact the breeder whom I purchased 3 HENS from ( she sells all over the country I have been told) and ask her to trade for 3 hens, ask her to rehouse them or ask her to refund my purchase. I was ok when one turned out to be a roo... I love him too. But I only have 5 hens now and I don't want 3 roosters in there with them. We just moved them into their winter enclosure too. I am really sad. I am interested in maybe giving them to the local 4H club for the young ones to raise.

Thank you for answering my post. I am now sure that 2 of the 3 are roosters. Still looking at the 3rd one. He/She is smaller but it does have the black feathers at the tail. I see that the hens don't get any tail feathers like that. Just wanted to stop by and say ty again... I did post a pic too if you want to look and confirm.
