DH's awning idea. We did one window, expecting some rain overnight and will see how this does. If okay, will do the other back window. Not sure about the ones facing the house yet.

Yeah, well, when you have no $$ for anything "proper" (less expensive awnings are at least $150 each and we still have a corrugated steel building, not a flat surface to attach them to) and also cannot pay someone to install anything, you're rather stuck. I'm frankly sick of always having to make do, but this is my life.

At the lower window, there is no steel framing member behind the siding. The screws went into the steel framers.

I don't mind it, but sometimes, like having this building put up by someone else, I just want to NOT have to always make do, jerry-rig, scrounge and scavenge.

We're getting rain Saturday. We'll see how this one does. If it's not bad, he'll make a second one for the other window, BUT I don't want these on the windows on the side facing the house and told him so. No one sees these, no one lives behind the barn. I think they'd look better if the PVC was spray painted almond and would blend in with the building. I looked at awnings all over the place and to me, the metal ones are just uglier than this is. The canvas ones won't hold up on that side of the barn. The three windows facing the house may get real awnings, but we still have the issue of a metal corrugated building.
 
I have trying to stay quiet, but you seem to be having the same kind of luck like me, things don't seem to want to work out like I want and it's always the hard way. I know at some point it's all going to just settle into place for you, it is frustrating to pay someone to do it for you only to find out they don't have the same ways or standards that you do. Probably clique, but my advice is to keep on trucking.
 
I actually think that is very attractive and the plexiglass makes it much less noticeable than a solid awning would be. It might need to be a little wider and longer but I think it's a great idea. It certainly is a lot nicer looking than some of the jerry-rigged solutions I have around my barns!

No choice but to keep on, right? Hope things get better for you, too, soon.

You know, I don't see any commercially made awnings that look nice. Awnings, by nature, to me, are butt-ugly. Houses in the 50's had them a lot, including my aunt's house I remember quite well. Here is an example that is fairly typical of what I see for sale-now, see how basic this is? That thing in the size I need is $180 plus tax and delivery. And multiply times five-there is simply no way, not with what has to be spent inside to make floors, pens, etc.

This type below to me is just the ugliest nastiest look on the planet.


Oh, what about this lovely thing? It's only $255!


DH got the idea from an awning company's drawing of framework for their awnings in the instructions for putting them together. I do think the PVC needs some spray almond/sand paint, though.
