I'm new to having quail. I have a few questions on feed and water. What is everyone feeding them and what is the best way to keep fresh water?

swla, I'm a total newbie, but hate not getting any answers on the quail forum.

I have bobwhites, for all of 4 or 5 weeks. They are about 5 months old. After researching, I am feeding them game bird grower, at 27% protein. Also bits of apple, weeds, wild grapes, some greens including dandlion leaves and clover, and occasionally some bird seed which is milo, thistle, and very finely chopped sunflower seeds. They go nuts for seed heads from the weeds. Now that I've had the first hard frost, I will be giving them occasional sprouted alfalfa, because I've read that they really enjoy that!

I have them on ground, with some parakeet grit avail.

I water them with a chick waterer up on a brick.

What kind of quail do you have?

I have coturnix. 19 of them at the moment. Thanks for the info. I want to make sure they are getting what they need.
