Hi there,

I just bought two baby plymouth rock chicks 2 weeks ago. I believe they were 3-4 weeks old when I got them. I was told that they were both girls based on the size of their comb at that age. One of them has started to get a red colour in her/his comb and face over the last couple of days and I was wondering if he/she may be a rooster? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Photo 1: The chick in question is on the right

Photo 2: Again, the chick on the right is the one I'm not sure about

Photo 3: I think this one is a girl

"It" is looking like a cockerel to me. And, I don't think he is a Barred Plymouth Rock since his legs appear pinkish white in the photo (Barred Rocks have yellow legs). He may be a Cuckoo Marans or a mix.

Thanks everyone for the help. I bought them from a backyard breeder so maybe they are a cross of some sort because they do look much more like cuckoo marans (after i did a bit of research on google). Either way I'm not too fussed, but its really good to know! I'm not sure how different the two breeds are in temprement or eggs?
