Quote: You're welcome. Perhaps you can educate your vet, lol? There is no reason for anyone in CA to pay for poultry necropsies, maybe your vet doesn't know that? Probably doesn't know about the FedEx either. Forgot to mention that there is a 2 bird per day limit, though that can be waived if you talk to the right person. A few years ago, the feed store I go to had three peachicks drop dead, so I literally stole their bodies and took them to the Turlock lab. They waived the charge on the peafowl and did all three, plus one of my chicks for no charge.

It's funny, I got totally frustrated at the vet....but I took a chance and called the San Bernadino #. That lady could NOT HAVE BEEN NICER!!! I basically said a vet sent it in, but can't tell me where or when they sent it, can you help. She put me on hold for a bit, came back and said she would continue to search, but didn't want me to stay on hold. Took my number and said once she found the chick, she'd call me back. What a difference in customer service!!!!

So does that mean it's the solenoid or the starter?
The solenoid's less than an hour old; I'm sure it's it's hooked up right...2 cables & 1 wire
How would the starter be involved at this point if there's no voltage on the output side of the solenoid ( not a smart-axe question...just trying to understand)

Quote: They are always so helpful when I call. Heck, even have the head avian pathologists are willing to speak to us. No bull like we get when we try asking an cat/dog vet a question.

So here is a sample of one of my reports. Hen died on Sunday (3-17), but I was too lazy and didn't ship her until Tuesday. They received her on Wednesday (3-20), and had the preliminary results in in a few hours. Final report came maybe ten days later.

Thanks Wh.

In ouer fate remebering of persons and events are a major issu!

Fascinating stuff. I'm Buddhist so ancestor remembrance is part and parcel of the faith. I love learning about how other faiths remember their dead.

The first 7 days the " shivea" all family member, the first circle ( children, parents, borders, and spouse) should practice some mourning practices, that include siting on florae, not shaving, not cleaning, not eating meat, ect. In this 7 days dozens of people com to pay condolences.
After this 7 days, we do a meal that have 4 things: a cake, fruit, vegetable, and a beverage which fir every one of them there is a special bless that you should say before you eat it. We believe that as more people bless and eat the food presented the soul of the death benefit from it.
After 30 days you repeat and in the first memorial day in the end of the year. This meal is companied with prayers and religious conversation from scholars that all intended fir the memory of the desist.
After the first year in the annual memorial day we visit the thumb, lights candelas, do some specials prayers and bless the food items to remember the loved one.
I am doing this for my dear Father, may God rest his soul in peace, almost 29 years now!

Does the output voltage change when you crank the engine over?

How long should a bird be left in quarantine? And how long does it take a roosters swimmers to get where there need to be?
Quarantine is from the Italian word 'quaranta'. meaning 40. During the black death, that's how long passengers had to stay on ships before coming ashore. It works for poultry too. Most pathogens' incubation period is shorter than that. While you're waiting for some illness to show up, keep checking for lice and mites. Best to have a fecal sample read at the start so if there are worms present, you can treat during the quarantine.
Besides watching for illness in new birds, it's entirely possible the new ones could be carriers but resistant that your birds are susceptible to. I like to put a sacrificial bird in with the new birds after a week. If that bird stays healthy, you're good.

If the hen is with a rooster for the first time, it could be until the second egg is laid, meaning third egg will be fertile.
Sperm storage ducts are in the vagina and infundibulum. Those are at opposite ends of the oviduct. Initially they are stored by the cloaca. Then, presumably when the next egg is passed, some will be squeezed out. Then they make their way to the infundibulum, some 25+ inches upstream. They lodge themselves in storage ducts there. The reason I say 3rd egg is because theoretically the first egg will already be in the uterus when mating occurs. When that egg is laid, the sperm is forced out. However, ovulation will occur shortly thereafter. About 30 minutes or more. That isn't likely enough time for the boys to make the trip and the infundibulum is the only place that fertilization can occur. So it should be in place by the time ovulation occurs again.
On the other hand, if this is the second rooster that has mated the hen, the offspring could be from either rooster for up to a month.

Assuming the widow's one of your sisters, I'd go to support her; screw everyone else.

Yeah, they don't advertise the FedEx bit. Turn around time at the Tulare and Turlock labs seems quicker. The Turlock lab will do my peafowl (chickens, turkeys, waterfowl, quail are free, but they charge for peafowl) for free, but I really like one of the pathologists at Tulare, so that's where I send most of mine.

Oh, the one my vet charged $120 for, it was a turkey poult, so it would have been free.

Bummer.

The thumb rule is 40:40
40 days at a minimum distance of 40 feats

However, many pathogens can be airborne much farther than that so distance should be 'as far as possible'.

What should I know about FedEx. I was going to mail birds.

What killed the peachicks?

I find people at Mizzou vet school to be very friendly and helpful. I guess they like their job.

My first necropsy was $85. The last one was 118.50. The only thing I can think of for the difference is that I dropped it off late at night on a Saturday so someone had to open the lab up for me. The good thing is that there is always someone on call so the lab is available 24/7.

Does the output voltage change when you crank the engine over?

The load would probably draw it down on a meter.
