Quote: So, you're in the middle of Amish country. Got to head north to Lancaster Cty. PA to find any of them here. Haven't been up that way in a while.
Have a Mennonite family on my road, but don't know them. Never seen a man there; only a couple of women working the garden.
Yes sir, almost all my neighbors are either Amish or Mennonite.

You all having s good day?.... I've got five in the brooder now and one zipping.... Got to head to town.... Talk soon
Congratulations Phil!
Good morning everyone! I thought I would offer a couple of smiles for this Monday morning. I am working and 800 behind so I will bbl.

So cute. Congratulations! Did I miss how you did on your test Saturday?

"WARNING: This product contains lead, a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects and other reproductive harm"

Printed on the packaging of a lot of fishing lures.

Does that mean California is smarter than the rest of us?
Are these products available in CA? It would be hypocritical if they were.
Are fishermen the world over doomed?
Is this someone's idea of population control?

Hmmm........

If I do it, I be in trouble.....I do it

Just about all woodworking tools have a cancer warning for California too.

No, way to hot. Hope everyone finds a way to stay cool.

It snowed here last night! Not cool universe, not cool. Anyway I've moved eggs off the turners and put them in there to rest until they hatch. Hopefully everyone's doing ok and the temp and humidity get correct quickly it's cool in here and I'm not pleased. I'm starting to think they may even hatch Wednesday if they're alright. I'm going to check them soon and the other incubator I have some on day 14 and day 9 I think in there so I can probably go over that bunch and see what's going well but lots of dark shells so not a lot of luck... And these guys will go in in about 9 days...
Good luck with you hatches!

The two Pekins are due now. I'm expecting them Wednesday due to temperature issues. The chicks all made it. Why not?

Good luck!

Is your area saturated with Amish-built mini-barns the way it is here? They do some fine work. Stolfutz seems to be a popular family name in these parts among the mini-barn community.

@Ur-ur-ur-urrr

Wanted to let you know I separated the two roosters and gave them two hens each. They were both good enough to keep. Will try clan breeding to see if I can keep inbreeding down.

Pens and anyone else - has anyone had issues with having only two hens with a rooster? I'm considering this for one of my breeding pens...
Y'all can put my name at the top of the "STUPID ROOKIE MISTAKES" list, in red size 70 type. I screwed up so bad even I don't believe it!

I went back to see if I could come up with something that would let me get a decent pic to post for you guys. I found one of my original DIY candlers that had a hole just the right size to support an egg w/o me having to try to balance an egg in my hand with the "good" candler on top while I tried to get a picture.

The 1st egg I re-candled happened to have an air cell the same size as the "business end" of the candler, so that I couldn't see it. All I could see was a large open space about halfway down the shell to the dark mass taking up the remainder of the shell. I mistook all that open space for air cell! I ended up candling every egg again, finding the same thing in all but a few, where the actual air cell was either not quite centered or was a bit larger. I even detected distinct movement in one of them.

Man! Did I ever feel foolish!

O.K, y'all can stop laughing now. I'm going to bed.

No laughing at all! So glad it ended up being ok.

Yes, saturated with Amish built everything around here, including my house. Common sir names: Miller, Yoder, Schlabaugh, Byler and some others.

I did think there might be problems. If so I have several hens to move in with them. I'm going to talk with Keith the guy I got the eggs from and see if he's had issues with this. He did tell me to separate the rooster with any sign of trouble.
