They are called dematting combs. I wouldn't recommend them as they are sharp and cat skin is thin. Sedation and clippers is what I recommend as an ex groomer. Best done at the vets office.

Thank you also.

The Vet has done it for me in the past when Chimee has been there for her check ups and vaccination as she does not wriggle at the Vet's. However, she is understandably not a fan of the Vet and as I do not have a car at the moment, would have to travel to the Vet in her crate on my garden trolley

The knots are not tight to the skin .. would the dematting tool be OK if I can come from under the knot?

You need to basically pull and saw with a dematting comb, usually you hold the base of the matt while doing it to minimize pulling on the skin. A dematting comb is basically razor blades in a comb formation.

Sometimes you can work mats off with your fingers on a cat when it isn't tight to the skin. It can take a few times of working it, but that's how I get them off my cat, towards the end I can usually give them a pull to get them loose.

I don't want to be responsible for you hurting your kitty though, or you getting scratched and bit.

Teila, in the end it's about the progress....you're on the downhill side when things start to get hectic! The coop is looking fantastic - lucky chickens!! Anytime those boys want to build a new coop for me, I'll be happy to welcome them. But I keep my run....love my run!

Dematting a cat? The only thing I can think of to do to get rid of mats in a cat is to give the cat to someone else.

So hard to get them out without hurting the cat, and those doggone critters can get ya no matter which end you stand on. Worst work related injury I ever got was when the other vet tech and I had to give a cat an enema and she lost her grip. Um, just for the record, as bad as cats hate getting mats out, they hate enemas even more.

Had a great visit with Ken's sister and her husband. We went out for pizza in Powell and met Kenny and Jenny as they were coming home from Cody. (Powell is halfway between here and Cody) So Liz got to see Kenny again, and they got to meet Kendra, Katie and Jenny as well. Lots of laughs! Shortly after we got back here, John and Liz headed out. They are building a house in Sand Point, Idaho, but took the long way there just so they could stop here, since we haven't seen them in years.

Edited to add: It was so hard smelling that delicious, savory roast all day long and then sitting in a pizza joint, but they'd had a huge late breakfast. So we opted for the pizza, and the roast will be just as good tomorrow!

Funny story. I bought Katie a nice top a couple of weeks ago to wear with her chiffon pants when we go to South Dakota Grand Lodge and for the cruise. I bought her a medium, We got home and called her over to try it on. It fit okay but it just didn't seem to hang right....as you may remember Katie is a pretty big girl. So the next time we went up there I picked up the same shirt in a Large. She tried it on this evening and it fits perfectly, hangs well, and she loves it. The plan was to take whichever one didn't fit as well back to the store and let her keep the other. Well, she talked me into trying the other shirt on, and of course Grampa had to take a picture. What do you all think?

Matching cruise apparel?

The one I was talking about is not straight like a comb, the ends are curved under so it won't cut until the hair slides back to the inside of the curve. I've also used something like this to cut the mat (on my dog) into a few sections so I could pick out the rest.

All depends on the tolerance of your cat. Every pet is different

Never seen that kind before.

Thanks again for your thoughts on the knot removal. When I was grocery shopping I ducked in to The Reject Shop [I do not know if you have them but it is basically a store which sells a lot of new, unknown brand stuff cheap .. $2 Shop type scenario ?] Anyways, while I have a brush for Chimee it is soft bristles, so I picked up a harder bristle cat brush and a brush mitt which Syba loved! More mum, more! LOL

Anyways, when I was grocery shopping, the pet section had a Purina ‘Stubborn Knot Remover’ which is a bladed comb but is designed in such a way that I can not cut her with it. It will not remove the knot in one go but will allow me to chip away at it in conjunction with the slightly harder cat brush; pretty much what you described OHLD. So far so good and she let me have a couple of goes with it and no holes in me.

I have also been working away at the knot with my fingers when she comes for cuddles at night and even managed to remove one that way in the past but they seem to be forming quicker than I can remove them and she has a couple now. Anyways, hopefully with the above we will get there a bit quicker and catch up.

Sadly Friday I did not see anything like the one you have but as I said, I think this one will work with time.

Blooie thank you for your kind comments regarding the coop .. I have passed them on to hubby. Not sure that he will be passing by Wyoming any time soon though

LOL at “the only thing I can think of to do to get rid of mats in a cat is to give the cat to someone else” Funny you should say that, in less than 3 weeks she will be hubby’s problem child for a while!

That is a beautiful picture of you and Katie and I like that top! Does that sign behind you with pictures of the kids and grands say “All Because Two People Fell In Love”? I love it!

I am not going to get all maudlin on you because I am happy with my lot but I think I have told you that I come from a small, dysfunctional family and I am estranged from my mother and father [long story] and my sisters live interstate? I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone’s family news and while I am sometime envious, I love that you share happy family times and give me yet another reason to smile; even more so when hubby is away.

Morning my friends,

Not to start off the day with a dreary post but I'm so tired I can barely type and it's almost time to start another day. Friday I worked 12 hours, yesterday I did 13 hours and it's anyone's guess about today. This kitchen work is hard! I make gallons of the 6 bbq sauces, the coleslaw, the burger buns, the deserts, the pizza doughs and today I'll add corn bread to that list. That's all in addition to anything else that needs to be done with the pro shop. The good news is I can't complain about housework because there's no time to do it

I'm just plain tired (and apparently whiney, lol).

But I've been keeping up with reading all your posts and it's so good to pop in to keep up with what all is going on with you. You have no idea how much I enjoy sitting down to read about grandkids, baby birds, moving plans, cats, and everything else you all are doing. Takes me away from this craziness and let's me think of things other than my "to do" list.

Thanks for being here and sharing your lives with me, hugs to you all

Good morning Debby and all! So much for less work this year Debby

I'm watching a friends kids this weekend. It's different having a 7 and 9 year old in the house. The little girl helped me take laundry off the line and she enjoyed it. She loved the sounds the baby chicks make and she got to collect eggs. She liked my cat Spuds but not Opie so much. The little boy wanted nothing to do with any of it. At home they are on their iPads a lot but didn't touch them all day yesterday until we went to DQ for supper and they played them on the way. We went to the park after and home we went. It was a gorgeous day yesterday and supposed to be the same today. No field work has started as we had rain last week... hopefully soon. Have a great day all!

Hey, Debby, not whiney - just sharing.

Yep, and what better place to share than right here? Debby, I know what you mean about feeling like you're whining. That's how I feel when I have those days, but I feel like if I don't vent I'll blow up, and here there's nobody who can reach me to belt me one!

And yep, Teila, the sign does say "All Because Two People Fell in Love" and it's surrounded by photos of our kids and grands.
