Surviving Minnesota!

Oh I forgot..GOOD Morning Ivie!!!

I set my last chicken eggs for the year, sort of.

No more SS eggs, unless someone wants them. No more BA or MA eggs, they are headed back into the laying flock. No more EE eggs being set.

The only eggs I will be setting will be the White sport possible eggs. I will be separating the Creamettes in that pen into two batches moving the White sport daddy between the pens, until I find the hen that lays them. She will join the white sports in lock up.

I am then going to get rid of my older Creamettes. I had a person that wanted adult CLBs. We will see if she still does.

I am thinking I will wean myself down to a flock of 10 creamettes for next year.

I will continue to try and hatch PC eggs. I candled last night, Not one was good. I have decided to trim butt feathers again. I have so few PC this year. I think I had 20 PC eggs in the incubator.

I will set PC eggs every 10 days. I will not wash and disinfect them until I put them in the incubator. I hate keeping dirty eggs on my racks, but If I get a broody it will get PC eggs. maybe they can do better than I do.

I am only going to do one more set of Guinea eggs and no more turkey eggs. The ones I set do not hatch until July 4th, that is late enough,

I think 5 weeks was about when that happened to me last year. Do they have all their feathers? Maybe she just needs some sleep at night and will be a good mom in the morning LOL Ask me how I know!

It could be the right time mother wasn't very nice about it tho. Yes they are totally feathered although some have silly hair still. The kids were keeping her up too late I could tell that.

Good morning ya all. I was patient this morning, waiting for Ralphie. Sometimes you just gotta let them 'win' and think that they did it on their own. Oh! NOT you Ralphie. That was just a general statement.

Well, everyone is busy.

Thanks for the update on Holms. Where is Klop Klop?

Dandelioness - did your youngest just turn one? Or was that ChickMaMa? We range in age on this thread by a great deal of years. I like that. It is interesting to see what priorities are at the different ages in life. Memories come flooding back. Things that would not have a recall if the comments were not out here.

Keep posting and have great moments this day.

Section playoffs in Brainerd last night for our 1a baseball team. We lost to Hinckley 2-0. They have one heck of a pitcher. The wind blew and blew and it was cold. Felt like a football game. We took our 14 year olds down to see the game so they could mingle with their cronies and we could watch our friends' boy play. Pitching was good on their end and they scored on two errors. We play again in Brainerd tonight.

The hens were more gathered up this morning. Old Sylvia seems to have taken lead hen position. She wouldn't let any one else eat out of the feed bowls. And when some left she followed looking for them asking "her questions". It's good they stick together. The seperating business makes me nervous.
