First: a little background. There is a local garden shop/greenhouse that keeps a few hens for sale year round. DH gave me to go ahead to pick up a few layers to add to our mixed flock. So, I grabbed 4 hens; 1 pearl white leghorn, 1 Ancona, 1 RIR, and 1 unknown breed. According to the former owner the unknown hen came from Mcmurray Hatchery in a layer bunch.

Now: the question. Any idea what breed? No, I have not seen what egg color she lays. She has not yet layed since bringing her home (that I noticed).

Looks like a hybrid that here in the UK would be referred to as a Blacktail, which is a light Sussex/RIR cross. Not sure if your hatcheries do that hybrid.

She's a lovely looking hen. Hope she starts laying for you soon.;
 
Thanks everyone. She is in my layer pen so hopefully I will get eggs soon. Considering her mixed heritage what breed rooster would you recommend crossing her with to keep the feather pattern in the chicks? I wouldn't mind lightening the breast feather a bit, but not much.
