Hands on hatching and help

@AmyLynn2374 The Mega Man custom came out great!!!
:hugs. So sorry to hear this. Don't know if I told this story here already but I was outside with my 1 & 1/2 year old and I was burning wood for some ash for the dust bath for the chickens. I had the run door open and my son wandered in there. I knew he technically shouldn't be in there but didn't think anything bad would happen. Well he lifted up the wooden ramp that leads inside the chicken coop and must have pulled it toward him a little and it fell down. It fell right on top of a paint pullet and broke her neck! I felt so bad and mad at myself. But like Amy said, accidents happen. We can't beat ourselves up. Lots of :hugs

Thanks!! We were happy with how it came out.

Thanks. I can't change it. Guess everyone has that 5 seconds in their lives they'd like to do over again. I should have just taken the board out with me when I went to the garage. Live and learn, but by my age I should have already learned it.

Sorry on both accounts . Don't kick your self so much we all do absentminded things just part of being human .

I'm okay, thanks everybody. I had to tell Katie when she got home from school, and she set it all back to rights as only she can do.

"Gramma, you can't control everything. I loved Q-tip, but I love you more." Um, yeah. Like that.

I am so sad for Q-Tip and for you. how old is the wonderful grand daughter of yours... how sweet she is and such a precious thing to say to you.

Thank you! Katie is 10, Cyndi, and she's amazing! Ask anyone here......they know, because I've told them often enough!

She's mildly Autistic, but often has more sense in her little toe than many adults I know have ever possessed. She has a little sister, our other granddaughter Kendra, who was born with Spina Bifida and more severe Austism. They are my miracle babies and I have learned more from them than I ever imagined.

The Silkies are Katie's, and we hatched them here. They are very special to her, thanks to the excellent hatching eggs we got from @RubyNala97 and a lot of prodding from @AmyLynn2374 and my other hand-holders. Katie is our "chicken kid"...she lives across the street and Ken and I can leave town for a week and she does a perfect job of caring for them. She's been doing it all by herself since she was 8.

Rather than bore everyone to death here with more Katie/Kendra stories, you can learn more about their special needs and relationships with our chickens right here:

@Blooie God bless Katie and Kendra. our struggles and trials and how we work through them shows our character.
your grand-daughters have beautiful character.
i have not cked out your "kids with disabilities..." site, but i will.
You sound like a wonderful grandmother.

Awe. Kids often have to put things in perspective for us adults. They do it so well too!

Has anyone experienced longer hatch rates with Orpington eggs. This is my second time purchasing eggs and the first group only had 2 hatch and this group so far has none. I purchased 15 eggs and then filled the rest of the incubator from my own hens. I have had 12 hatch of my own eggs and more cracked. The breeder is telling me that they take longer to hatch than 21 days. Has anyone experienced this?

The lemon cuckoo orps from my last hatch were almost exactly to the hour unzipped. 21 days, I did just set a variety of orps yesterday so now I'm curious too lol...?
