Hands on hatching and help

Isn't it? I'll use a drop or two of it, but not sure I would use pure molasses.

So he is halfway out, and I have used Vaseline to keep the membrane moist. Here's the question, what do I do if I get the whole shell off should I try to get him out of the membrane?
He is chirping and wiggling, but just can't seem to actually get out. I stopped with the shell because of the blood.

If he's not bleeding any longer and the yolk is absorbed, you can just help him out of the egg, membrane and all. You don't need to take the whole shell off, just the shell over the air cell.

Edit: Looks like you edited your post after I replied. If you're still seeing blood, he's not ready to come out. Just give him more time.

If their is no veins I would make the hole in the membrane abit bigger but only if the veins are practically gone. By doing that you can look in and see if the yolk is absorbed. I feel your stress right now I really do but your doing great!

I have watched people get into drag down knock out arguments over whether molasses is good for chicks.

Saw something funny. Purina is doing a contest for a years supply of chicken feed. Today by the "years supply" is added (14 bags) I died laughing! That's not even half a year for me....lol

Update on my incubation. 24 silkie eggs set last Tuesday night. 4 clear and only one quick quitter. 19 eggs developing ATM I'm real happy with this hatch!

Things are looking good on the possibility of a move. We've gotten numbers and terms out and in agreement. Wracking my brain though how I am going to transport my chickens.

I just found out NYS has a regulation for selling chicks. They are by law supposed to be sold no less than 6 per lot as new chicks.

I'd give you an ovation if it would let me...lol  One of the biggest arguements is "we only want the strongest". I think people tend to forget that when we are artificially incubating that we ourselves cause many problems and make unneccessary challenges for these chicks that they wouldn't be dealing with in nature. My very first assist was a very malepositioned pipper. After hours of not progressing, I widened the pip to asses the situation. I had little toes waving at me from above the beak....lol There was no way that she was going to get out herself, so I slowly started an assist, doing a little at a time before replacing her and giving her rest time. Once she had a big enough hole and could pull her leg down, she was able to push out on her own.  She ended up being one of my best layers out of my first group and perfectly strong and healthy.  Had I not helped, she probably would have died in the shell from exhaustion or dehydration or something.  So I am very much for assisting when necessary. I'm sure there's been one or two that I helped that may not have needed it too, but hey, there here and healthy...lol I have only lost one in maybe a dozen of assists that I have done, and I believe he had digestive issues, something going on internally. He seemed healthy after hatch but had very runny poo that got worse and 9 days after hatch he died. The first 7 days though he was active and seemed to be thriving, so  .

I hope others will join the convo and share their experiences as well.
