I have 5 Golden comets, happy , friendly, and not bothered by the cold so far. (One egg a day including some double yokes) This weekend is going down to 3 f or lower. Aside from fresh water should I do anything else for them?

You might grease up the combs of any chickens that have large, single combs. I like to use Bag Balm. It makes it less vulnerable to any freezing moisture in the air.

I have one newbie, the same age as my hens that have been laying everyday. She came to me alittle banged up and skinny. She was getting abused by my friends flock, like pecked and npt getting enough food. She's been with my flock a little over a month. She's looking good and has put on some weight. During the coldest days I found two eggs, very soft shells, and not in a nesting box. They free range plus I sprinkle oyster shells in the run. Is there anything else I can do or just give more time. I'm wondering about vitamins or having her checked out for something may have caught from her old home.
