ISO horse - Missouri

Casually looking for a horse. I've not 100% decided on this, but I'm considering it if I find the right one. I'm looking for an older horse, around 20 (will consider a little older), definitely not younger than 15, mare or gelding. Do not care about breed, height (as long as it's above 14 hands), color, grade or registered, gaited or non. Just needs to be completely sound with decent conformation. Only considering completely broke horses. Needs to be beginner safe, forgiving of someone who makes mistakes, gentle and sweet, must neck reign. Would love to find something that can be ridden bareback in only a halter. Want slow but will trot and canter when asked. Needs to be able to sit in the pasture a while without acting up. This horse will only be used for light trail riding and confidence building, he/she will be in a WONDERFUL life long home with one other horse and some cows on 60 acres. Not looking to spend a ton of money, located in Monett and not wanting to drive more than 45 minutes. Please let me know what you have! Thanks in advance!

I can't help you out with an actual horse, but I wanted to say that the best horse I ever had we got from a guy who bought him off a "trail ride" type place. He was sound his entire life and the most bomb proof horse I've ever ridden. He was slow and didn't usually like to run, but he would if you asked. Sometimes he was stubborn and just wanted to go back to the barn and trailer to eat, but he was so sweet and gentle that we never cared that much. You'd could put children on him, beginners, anyone.

So long story short, I wanted to mention possibly looking at trail horses. Often times these trail barns or dude ranches will turn over their horses for new ones and they either put up the previous ones for sale or bring them to auction. Sometimes if you stop in to speak to the owners, they'll let you know when they have horses for sale. Many of these horses are perfectly fine for riding and can be great beginner horses. I know some trainers that use them as training animals for lessons with beginners. Of course, I always recommend brings a second opinion and possibly a vet check, but it's worth checking out!

Well.. That was a short lived search. There's one trail riding place near me, and they have one horse for sale.. For $9,500 A little out of my price range
