A few of my chicks have poop stuck to there butts. It's like they were in the middle of pooping and some of it is around the vent feathers. Is this normal? Please help! I'm brand new at this and a little paranoid.

It happens a lot. But needs to be taken care of immediately. Warm water and a rag can be used to remove it. Put a little oil on his butt to help keep it from sticking. Check his butt two times a day and keep it clean. A little molasses in their water will help.

Yes. Pasty butt. I use clean, warm water to clean the vent area with. Often the problem disappears. If you type in "Pasty butt" in the advanced search box at the top of this page many threads/ posts will become available to you. After you clean the vent area check the skin color in that place. If the skin looks very red and swollen, the chicks may have an intestinal infection that needs to be treated with antibiotics.
