Hey guys,
I'm just curious - I joined this site when I was a freshman in college and now I'm a senior approaching graduation. I got my chickens around the end of freshman year, and my experience of raising hens and going to school has kind of been intertwined in a sense.
So I'm curious, how many other BYC users are in college?? Where did you go? How big is your flock? How do you handle having a flock and being away from home (if you're like me)??
I have a flock of 14 hens. I started with five, but within a year I upped the size of my flock and built a new hen house. I have 10 rhode islands, 1 minorca, 3 buff orpingtons and 2 partridge rock hens. Generally I get 10-12 eggs a day. I'm from NJ but I go to school at Boston College, so I'm not always home with my birds. My family does an excellent job of caring for the birds when I'm gone. They really took to them and now the chickens are no different than any other pet.
