I noticed one of my hens was acting different last night when I got home from work. They were all roosting when I went in to check things out. One was in the egg box, she was standing but it looked like she was going to sleep standing up. I reached in and touched her to see if she was responsive and she "woke up" and acted normal. So this morning she was in the same place and doing the same thing. She would act normal, but then her eyes would shut as her head slowly went down. So I went to pick her up and separate her from the rest and she woke up and ran out. She didn't want me to catch her at first, but when I walked up to her she just let me pick her up and take her. Not sure what might be going on.

I also felt her crop to see what it felt like. It almost feels like it bubbles out. I don't know how to explain it well. Plus I am not sure what it is supposed to feel like. Is it supposed to feel like a soft "lump" were the neck meets the body? It was not hard, just noticed it.

A pic is the best bet - theres lots of poop experts here

My vet gave my girl some antibiotics and she significantly improved less than 24 hours later. She is still sleeping/closing her eyes more than normal, but is much better! I hope yours starts to feel better soon!

How did they give her this by shot? I'm new to chickens! And our vets don't deal with them so I'm on my own! I talked to a friend, thinks it is coccidiosis. So I separated her in a box in our garage. Fed her water and some medicated chick food we dissolved in a syringe and a little bit of mother braggs apple cider vinegar. She perked up a bit and fought us to get it down so I think she still has some fight in her!
