Chicken compound build thread.

Would make a good sauna, or an ice fishing shack hahah
Through June July and August we see temperatures as high as 34degrees Celsius, and very humid heat being in the maritimes.
Makeing it feel like 40 some days.

Yeah ok. I'll let you have that one, lol. Hot and steamy :) just like it is here today :(

Are you in bear country? Will your sixpack be secure in the event big predators get interested?

Looking good. My advice on the dog fence is to add hardware cloth at least 3/4 of the way up. Chain link is tough, but the holes are wide enough for racoons or other predators to stick their hands through and grab your birds. Been there, done that.

Luckily I'm not in bear country nope!:)
And that's a good bit of info on the coons!

I've been living here 4 years, and did see a bobcat in the backyard on two different occasions:$
There is a road about 150yards behind the hen house that gets a lot of traffic/main route to the city, keeps the bigger predators stumbling into my yard to a minimum it seems.

Well, nesting boxes aren't built/installed.
And neither is the chicken run..
Haven't picked up the vinyl flooring.
Or a lot of the trim/siding as far as that goes..

But girls were cramped, so I put down tyvek as temporary flooring. and they made the big move to the backyard last night!
They seem content/relaxed as far as I can tell!
I just have a one gallon water jigger right now.. Gonna get a larger one tomorrow if I can find time.

So, if I had he run built.. Would they be old enough to go outside?
A month and 3 days old as of today:)

Thanks

Chicks can go outside at day one if it's warm enough and they are protected/contained.
I wouldn't let them free range until they've 'homed' to the coop...a week or two.

Perfect! Thanks aart:)
I'll admit I should have done more research and not had to ask questions like this..
But after 11 years of my wife wanting hens I surprised her one day and ordered the birds for her.
Just been figuring it out as we go, but everyone's help here has been all we have needed to get this far
Thanks again

The six pack has been doing great this past week in their new house.
I have been doing a lot of other stuff around the house that had been on the back burner...
So no major progress on the hen house, but in the next week I'm going to build their run.

I used a couple metal plant hangers just inside the man door to hang food and water.
Just open the upper half of the door
And it's right there/ easy to get.
