To deter any possible cat burglars!

I have 5 indoor meowers, it is not pretty but they do not like it! Whatever it takes...

Well, it's whatever works, right?

I always covered our babies at night not because I thought my Siamese would kill them, but because I was afraid he might hurt them through one of his jealous swats. You know how cats are about wanting all the attention for themselves.

Thankfully, I've been blessed with good indoor and barn kitties who have never gone after our little ones. But that being said, it's good to air on the side of caution!

Ooh yes, some can be very jealous. Especially with the Siamese breed! Glad to hear you have great kitties too! I have 2 that I call "The Little Kids" because one is 7 months & one just turned 1 yr yesterday, then I have 3 older ones that are called, well..."The Big Kids". lol But the big kids seem interested of course, but haven't made me feel uneasy yet. It is them little ones that make me question their every move! Turds.

Ha ha! The younger ones have more zest because of their age, perhaps?

I've got two indoor kitties, one is around 6 1/2 years old, and the Siamese is 2. The older one never once bothered the babies. In fact, we once had an injured day-old that we had to separate, and she kept escaping her little "brooder." Nobody ever hurt her!

We've also got a young barn cat who hunts rabbits and mice like you can't imagine, but this is the same cat that was surrounded by bantam chicks yesterday and loved every minute of it. I don't know how they distinguish that chicks aren't prey. It's amazing!

~Alex

Yes, I believe age has a lot to do with it! lol Crazy kids!

Man I just love Siamese kitties! I had one growing up, she made it to 14 years old when she finally had to be put down due to breast cancer. So sad. She was actually a Xmas present for my mama from daddy, but she was a huffy little thing and only loved me!

That is amazing how they leave them alone! Maybe they see you caring for the feathery friends and just associate it in a positive way. Who knows? Cats can be very surprising & super smart!

Since this post I have changed things up yet again! I SWEAR this brooder is like the Winchester House!
lau.gif
I added the blue tote to give them more room, then I added more layers of chicken wire to the tops so little furry paws could no longer go through. I *think* I got it now! I don't use the tin foil as much anymore, I do use it for when I am sleeping or if I need to run out. I just lay it across the top! Used duct tape to cover the edges of the wire to protect the fur babies. Beautiful I know! LOL Each tote has a purpose blue=food & water, grey=play & the clear is their sleeping area with a sand box.

Here's my two overzealous babies Zoë

Franklin

My other babies! Koby

Dustina (on the left) & Chloë They're Maine Coon sisters.

I agree, Siamese kitties are great! Phoenix was thrown into the ditch across from the house when he was just a fuzzy little kitten. Although I completely disagree with the whole concept of abandoning young cats, during wintertime especially, if he had not been dumped, we would never have gotten him!

Here's my boy.

Your set-up is perfect, and so elaborate!
love.gif
Ours was simply plastic totes covered with a baby gate that was weighted down with my mom's soapmaking oils or something similar. It was makeshift, but hey, it worked while the chicks were still being brooded in the house!

What cute babies you've got! I love Maine Coons but have never had any. Also, Koby looks identical to my grandma's orange tabby, Peanut. The resemblance is uncanny!

My other indoor kitty, Maverick.

And, my barn girl, Marian.

~Alex

Oh my goodness I love him! He's so gorgeous! He reminds me of my mom's kitty! (My Siamese's son) Gizmo. I want to squish his little face he is so dang cute. I don't agree with it either, but so happy you found him! WHO throws a SIAMESE out? Holy cow!

Aww Peanut, love that name! Koby is SUCH a stinker. He is sweet as can be, but acts like we beat him. (which we never have just to clear that up, lol.) He's just SO awkward! But always wants love, he especially loves me.
love.gif
He humps things too. Very odd cat!

Maverick & Marian are gorgeous too! Are they related? I had a kitty like them too, lol.

Maine Coons are SO awesome! They are dubbed "Dog of the cat world" and boy is that true! I mean they still have their feline qualities of course, but do act like dogs in many ways. My one girl is a lot larger than her sister tho. They don't meow really either, they chirp & mutter! So cool!! Love my squishy faces!

Aww thanks!! I tend to go overboard with building things, lol. I have nothing but time on my hands due to RA, so I create. And lots & lots of it! I make jewelry too, love working with wood, etc etc. SO when a simple project comes my way my brain just won't let it be cut & dry. Drives me nuts at times! lol My specialty is creating things out of nothing! My hubby & kids make fun of me ALL the time because I save EVERYTHING...jars, containers, wood scraps, paper scraps so on & on & on. But if I ever I need anything in a pinch I know I will have *something* to help me out! Don't worry, I am a very clean & organized hoarder! lol Thank you clinical OCD!! And I do always have to point out to my hubby that I save him a LOT of money with my hoardings! He smirks and says "I know you do. I love that about you". :D

Thank you!
big_smile.png
I know, I don't understand what that individual who dumped Phoenix was thinking either. Some people are just weird, perhaps?
roll.png
Or maybe they simply don't think things through.

Koby sounds like an awesome little guy, made all the better through his unique behaviors!
love.gif

Again, thanks so much!

They're actually not related as far as I can tell, since Marian was a gift to us after our first barn cat, sweet Cooper, died last December. Maverick was a starving stray who came to us in 2011. He's got a really bad problem with seizures that hadn't manifested until last year. Because of this, the poor thing has to take his medicine every night.

Maine Coons sure are beautiful, but I can see that there's more to them than just that!
smile.png
Where did you get them?

Hey, it's ALWAYS good to have things around that you might be able to use down the road! I wish I had even an ounce of your creativity, which I severely lack.
lol.png
Maybe it's something I'll grow into eventually?

~Alex

I would gladly give you just an ounce of my creativity! I does drive me crazy at times. Everything I see I'm like "I can use this, I should keep this etc etc". Or a color or shape sparks my interest and I'm off trying to figure out what to make of it. My mind constantly goes!!

Koby is my special man for sure.
Aww, I'm sorry for your loss that is never easy. Goodness, poor fella! I can relate taking meds every night, lol. Hope he stays well.

I got my girls from Pet Smart, through a shelter in 2008. May 1st is their bday, they'll be 8. Sweet, sweet girls!
Yes. I am seriously a crazy cat lady! lol Now I feel I will end up a crazy chicken lady!! Oy!
This was Dustina today...chicken watch of course.

Dusty is pushing 15 lbs

Chloë is a lot smaller than her sister, about 10 or 11 lbs. She's also not as fluffy. Many years ago they got fleas somehow, she must be allergic because her fur fell out on her tail almost completely & around her head and it just never grew back. Boo!

I'm the opposite.....my mind doesn't function enough!
he.gif
I would much rather think too much.
wink.png

That's very sweet of you.
smile.png
So far, Maverick's been seizure-free for several months thanks to prayers and the anti-convulsants!
yesss.gif

Awwwwww.....they're so pretty! That long fur is incredible and so soft looking.
love.gif
Adopting cats is the way to go, in my opinion. It's giving hope and new life to cats who may or may not have a chance at a home otherwise!
